Default Does this sound like a new clutch to you?

Been told by my mechanic that the reason for my clutch pedal and struggle with first gear on the off occasion is due to my clutch release bearing. Would this also result in a new clutch being needed? Just wanting to make sure I pay for the essentials and don't get taken for a ride by the mechanic. If it is a new clutch I may uprate it would anyone recommend a decent one to go for?

Competition clutch stage 2 organic with lightened flywheel if you upgrade.

IMO if the release bearing is worn (and I'm not saying that is necessarily true for difficulty in switching into first), then I would absolutely be changing the clutch as well at the same time.

taking the box and engine apart is a reasonably big job (especially if you're paying a garage to do it), so makes sense to swap an old clutch at the same time. Only time I wouldn't do this is if the clutch was recent, but then the release bearing would have been changed at the same time, surely.
