Default Burning oil?

Hi there!
ive just bought another scooby, 4 years since I sold my wrx
anyways, was buying car late evening ( hate to do this :/ ), so next day ive noticed a little bit of black smoke coming out from the exhaust. Also rear bumper gets dirty around the exhaust.
Simply started to worry if the engine is burning oil, not sure but if it does, it would be a blue smoke not black? Correct me if im wrong. What can cause the black smoke than? Should I be worried?
Engine: sti v3 1996

thx!

Not necessarily a bad map.
440s are standard on your v3sti btw
You'll probably want to give it a service, new plugs etc will you as its a new car to you?
Condition of spark plugs will tell you how it's running.
Who mapped it? What ECU you running? ESL? Alkatec?

Unfortunately those are the things I dont know. It was done by someone who owned the car before the guy I bought it from. He says that engine was fully rebuild at scooby clinic 5k miles ago,but there is not proof or receipt, so I dont really believe that it was this guy only owned it for a few mths and had to sell due to high insurance costs etc ( young kid)
Ill probably have to visit some scooby specialist to really find out what really seats in this car.

Those are the things I dont really know. Bought it from a guy who owned it for just a few mths and had to sell as he couldn't afford to keep it ( insurance etc, young kid ). He says that a previous owner done a full engine rebuild at scooby clinic, but he has no proof or reciept...so I dont really believe that.
proffwill probably have to take it to some scooby specialist to really find out what sits in this car.

I thought 440s came in later but could be wrong.

As mentioned check spark plugs and make sure they are the correct ones. Also another thing you might want to check/replace is the pcv valve. Other then that possibly a map check.
