Just wondering does the sti/ra like yours have the same size 440cc injectors as normal sti variants, seeing as it has the 5th injector on the inlet manifold? Do you know? Cheers

I believe Andy's is a 95 WRX (non STi RA) and has 380 injectors?

JB's correct. My car is an RA not an Sti and it has 380cc injectors. Plus that strange 5th injector which may or may not actually work !!!

When I had the intake manifold off I sprayed it red to raise my rev limit to 8000 and add 20 bhp

then is there such a thing as an sti/ra? I am buying an engine for parts, which came out of what I believe was an sti/ra. It is a 4 door, around MY94 i think. The car had adj. centre diff, roof vent, and TD05, silver inlet + 5th injector. Just curious about the size of injectors due to the extra one that the factory added.

about 4 years ago, a mate bought an MY93 RA. It only lasted 4 days before an articulated lorry hit us. Lucky it had a roll cage fitted, or we would have been squished. Funny though, it was hit from the rear, and although very badly damaged, ( shell was slighty twisted ) after the insuarance etc was sorted, we bought the car back off the insurance. It actually still drove nearly perfectly, despite looking otherwise. Such fun to drive, when you dont actually car about the car as its already wrecked. But id redlined at around 7500, and rev limit at around 8000. I even tried the ecu in my 92 UK legacy estate. It did make massive improvements, much more driveable, torquey, came on boost earlier, and revved to 8000. It did have the speed limiter though. I just stuck with my UK ecu just to be on the safe side though. If it was anything to bo by, the RA definately runs better than any of the subarus I have encountered.

I seem to remember a list of your mods on a thread somewhere... But do you use an electronic boost controller and some sort of electronic fuelling frigger? (aswell as the pump and reg).

Andy, I reckon your fifth injector is working just fine.

Cant see how you would get 380ish bhp with 4 380s any other way.

sti ras do exist, roof vents on earlier cars did not mean they had to be v limiteds.

I think there was an sti 2 type ra.

Adam

I've been going to check it with a multimeter but never got round to it !
Should a 95 Sti have red manifolds, 4 pots and an adj centre diff ?

My car doesn't (well I painted the manifolds) but it does have most of the other bits

sti 2 onwards had red manifolds.

only ras and rs can come with adjustable centre diffs, but have seen examples which dont, buyer selectable at the expense of abs so some would have gone other way.

normal stis that I have seen never have.

since yours is not an sti, dont see why it should have a red manifold. As an ra it stood a chance of the adjustable centre diff.

Must admit, I havent seen any old style interior cars with the adjustable centre diff, excepts Pat, but he put his in afterwards.

Back to my original question then, would an sti/ra with silver inlet manifold, with 5th injector, TD05, + adj centre diff, roof vent have the 440cc injectors???. It must be the first sti model I think. Or would it still have the 380cc injectors?

Andy did you have to adjust your actuator to run the boost you are. My 94 wrx I have noticed that even though the boost controller is set to 1.25 bar it is actualy only achieving 1.02 bar. Have removed dump valve temporarely as I thought this was causing a problem but it still makes a dump valve noise from waste gate area, not a chatter as you would expect, is this how yours sounds.

Yes, I had to adjust the wastegate to maintain boost at higher rpms.
The standard actuator has a soft spring and the exhaust backpressure blows it open regardless of boost setting.

I don't use a dumpvalve (just like any racing turbo installation). I get a 'chirp' through the intake cone when changing gear at full boost.

Andy is there any set procedure for adjusting the actuator, or would I be better off getting an uprated 1. The dump valve noise I'm hearing must be the wastegate, but it doesn't chatter like it used to a couple of years ago before I fitted a dump valve to atmosphere. Even though I work on turbo cars everyday, and I have tuned a lot of normaly aspirated cars, this is my first attempt at tuning a turbo car so I'm on the cautious side when I'm playing under the bonnet.

I tightened the linkage one turn at a time until I achieved my desired boost profile. As you tighten the linkage you need to back off the boost control valve (if you have one) to compensate.
