Can I fit front diff with crown, pinion shaft and centre diff from a bugeye wrx into a V6 Sti gearbox? Would it work with the gearing?

The question is why would you want too, the sti has a a far better front diff

Because I need a gearbox for my bugeye, I have a good Sti gearbox so that's why. Also, I don't have an Sti rear diff.

I've been done over a couple of times now with 'good' used gearboxes and I'm not taking it out again for it to be another knackered box.

I'm just interested to know how the bugeye final drive will pair with the Sti gearing?

would it not be easier to fit a matching rear diff? You can however swap the front diff from your bug? No need to change the center diff.

if the WRX is euro spec then the drop gear ratio will be wrong regardless..........

JDM are 1>1 and UK/Euro 1.1>1

Can I not use the drop gears off the WRX though? Just use the whole transfer case guts?

If I split the V6 Sti box, fitted the front diff and pinion shaft from the WRX box and the drop gears, would that do it?

Well, I went for it anyway.

I had a busy day on the car yesterday. Removed the gearbox from the car, stripped my V6 Sti box, fitted the front diff and pinion from the bugeye into the Sti box. The Sti box was spare due to a bad crunch into 5th. I thought it might be the brass cone, but it was actually the edge teeth on the synchro shifter ring which were damaged. So with my wealth of spares I found a suitable synchro ring with nice fresh sharp teeth and fitted that too. I then stripped the box off my car (which I'd previously swapped the transfer case bearings in) and fitted the entire transfer case *** and drop gears onto the V6 Sti box.

Didn't finish fitting it all back in the car until 9'ish last night and didn't try it, didn't want to get annoyed before bed if it was no good lol.

Tried it this morning and it's all good! Seems absolutely fine and 5th gear changes perfectly too! Happy with that!
