as a few of you will know,I have run a few different set-ups on my car.

my first mod was a PE T75 down pipe.this let the turbo spool up earlier.then I added the magnex back box which gave a nice sound but highlighted a flat spot at 4500rpm.then came the straight through centre which seemed to improve the whole system allowing it to spool up earlier still, harder and rev better higher up.

I then tried a Dawes valve which transformed the boost control and offered good gains, but off boost,I still felt that the car was not as good as it should be.I took the Dawes off and fitted a MY99 ECU.this improved the car especially off boost, held boost control was improved and the flat spot at 4500rpm disappeared.the car was going great and was how I felt it should have been, for a standard ECU car.I ran it for a few weeks and then fitted a Blitz back box,as I felt although the magnex was nice sounding,no performance gains had been given.there was a definite improvement, car pulled harder still and boost went up slightly.I refitted the Dawes allowing me to run a held of 16psi and again there was an improvement.

I then tried a Prodrive ECU with the Dawes still in place.to be honest, the only thing I found, was the fact that I could run a few more psi boost and felt that no other gain had been offered.I had the opportunity to buy this ECU but declined as I felt it was just not worth the money for 2psi of boost.on the road it did offer a more driveable car but I felt that fitting a fuel cut lifter and giving my MY99 ECU a bit more boost would have done the same.

the car remained like this until 2weeks ago when I removed the Dawes in preparation for the TEK2 courtesy of john banks.I think the ECU needs a few miles to"bed in",so the first 15miles were made up of town driving and off boost.junctions and corners where usually I would drop a gear, meant that the gear change was not needed, the car would quite happily pull from low revs and did not sound like it was struggling.onto an open road and pulling from low revs the boost gauge builds slowly but the rev counter picks up far quicker than before, full boost and the car feels sooooo smooth with a-lot of grunt.higher up in the revs the boost tails off quicker compared to the Dawes but the car keeps pulling, watch the boost gauge you could be led to believe that it was not that quick, however looking at the rev counter or how quick the scenery is passing soon lets you know otherwise.

on a rolling road I do not think a figure comparison only, would reveal much, however the torque/power curves between 2000rpm to possibly 5500rpm would be far fatter and better, than with the Dawes on a standard ECU.

I was not too keen to run a Dawes through the summer, during the winter I would say it is okay to run just below fuel cut,but in hot weather I would be worried at running as high as this with the solenoid disconnected.even on warm days I had not noticed the Dawes drop boost and this was concerning me as I would have thought I would have lost a few psi in warmer conditions.TEK2 has given full control back to the ECU and I would say that it will boost higher on cold days and lower on hot days which must be safer.also because it is not just relying in higher boost through the whole rev range, must make it more mechanically sympathetic to the turbo and gaskets.

will report back when I get the TEK3 done, when I find the time for a mapping session with the doc,but well happy with the results so far .

I had the Tek3 done on monday and all I can say is it's great.I would like the boost to spool up more like with the dawes but the car, through the whole rev range seems stronger.I had asked john to set the boost like I had with the dawes but delta dash started to pick up a bit of knock correction ,when pushing on,higher up the revs, knocklink was only flickering the greens.this was on a fairly cold/wet night.john then tailed the boost off higher up and worked his magic.

I did my first track day with it tonight and could not believe the difference.I used to feel, even with the dawes holding slightly more boost higher up,that the "sweet spot" to change up was 6000-6200rpm,tonight I found it pulling easily to the rev limiter even catching me out once or twice.I liked to change at 6500rpm.

at one of my last track days, with my99 ecu and dawes, knocklink showed "big red" on two occasions.I thought this was down to gear changes but I had no reds tonight,so a dawes might not be as safe for hard use as we think.my intake temps also stayed lower in similar/possibly even slightly warmer conditions.

I am hoping john still has my delta dash runs,so that he can post my finished map and how it reacted on track, when he checked it tonight.two things I did notice tonight was that sometimes the car gave a loud pop changing to third from the hairpin and that the emmisions thing kicked in once or twice, although I could not get it to do it again while getting logged so possibly my solenoid is contaminated.

I'm mapping another car then, but I would love to see what John's car did.

andy,

will probably go,but only to watch.I need to save a bit of cash,so think I will only be spectating for next couple of events.anyway, someone has stolen my blitz ,loaned it out and the guy can't live without it now ,my car might need a few tweaks to the map when I refit it anyway as the boost will rise.

john,

could you not map the car in the star area?I am not too far from star as you know,so you could get power at my place, jim might even let you run an extension outside under the canopy if you ask him nicely.if you put your car in the queue,I could phone you two cars before it goes on.I do not know how many spaces are left but how about seeing if jim could give your customer a special rate, for possibly the first run of the day and the last,so that we have a fair, true before and after comparison.

Question

meant to ask john,

do you have any logs left from my car from last night and monday?

I would like to see them if possible as I revved the car higher when you came out with me to try and show any problems up.

None from Monday, but I have the log of the whole 5 or so laps from last night. I will try and upload it to my webspace tonight and post a link to it.

The RR - I have further plans still - think I'll give it a miss this time - I have lots to do this weekend and an exam Tuesday, and I already have plots of my car at an intermediate stage from PE with proper cooling fans.

I was told by jim that his fan is the same as PE's.I am sure he said it was rated at 80mph with the new top mount being 40mph,which should be okay if it covers the whole top mount,he also said that if temps were still felt to be high he would mist spray the i/c before the run.

surely a star run would be interesting before you change anything else.

How about speaking to Jim on Saturday and checking for an available date in the next few weeks. I'd like another run but this Sat was too short notice as I'm in York

Andy,
My car wasn't ready for the rolling road day today but I'm still keen to go to Star to see what my JB Tek 3 is giving me.
Bear me in mind if you are arranging a day over the next few weeks.

Delta Dash log from T-uk's car around Knockhill - about 6 laps I think. Maximum peak boost was 17.6 in 4th gear. Note the mixture of mainly positive knock correction with some retard.
