How to fit a Downpipe
#1
Can a decat downpipe be fitted relatively easily with a set of ramps and some tools or are there any sepecial tools needed.
Does anyone know of any links to pages that describe the procedure.
I hate the thought of having to leave my car in to some irreputable local garage who will probably charge me about £50 quid just cause they had bigs windows and saw me coming(Those places give me creeps, I hate them!!).
Any help appreciated

its pretty easy, ive fitted mine to a my97, removed it and its now fitted to my p1, took me about 4 hours to fit the first time, 20 mins to remove, 2 hours to refit , you need to remove the intercooler to remove the heatshield, cut the heatshield down if you intend refitting it, bonus is come mot time, when the shield is cut you can remove it without removing the intercooler

Hi,hope you do not have problems like me,took mine to garage they could not get siezed bolts out of turbo, had to take turbo off and drill them out, then the hks would not fit the flange on my concept system, they had to cut flange off this then made pipe to short had to make more gaskets out of aliminium.took 6hours cost me £240 bummer, don"t you just love modin cars!

I tryed to remove the heat sheild last night and got all the nuts out with the intercooler in place except the two which are furthest down on the right hand side (by the brake servo).
Is it essential to replace the heat sheild again once its removed cause it would be easier to just leave it off and would that not provide more cooling for the turbo?

I am going to be fitting a SS Downpipe this weekend. Can anyone tell me how much you need to cut the heat shield down. The downpipe will be lagged so is the heat shield necessary.

Hi Edd just fitted a de-cat down pipe to my 96 wagon, and only had to cut a small section away on the side nearest to the intercooler to accomodate the oxygen sensor as it's positioned slightly closer to the turbo
