Thumbs down

I used this company in luton to do an engine re-build on my STI4 Type-r after they convinced me they knew what they were doing.

During the initial phone call I told them that I suspected the big ends had gone. They said about two weeks to fix and expect a bill for £2000. Ok I said go ahead and fix it then i can live with £2000.
After stripping the engine they informed me a gudging pin had come loose and damaged the pistons and crank.
I told them to just fix the problem so a complete re-build began.
I was without my car for 4MONTHS while they completed the job.
They informed me to keep the cost down I would be better of using Cosworth oversized pistons which according to them were also a lot stronger than the original sti ones. Great I thought im getting a better piston and a cheaper price. Cosworth it is then I said.
I asked what warranty I had with the new engine and was informed 12months or 12k miles. Pretty good I thought.
When I picked the car up 4MONTHS later I was presented with a bill for £5250(no thats not a typing error that was their price)this included a new battery because mine had gone flat sitting in their yard so long.
I paid the money and took my car.
3 months later I heard that dreaded rattle again and my engine died on me again. I contacted PTS who picked up the car under warranty(8pmTues). At 08.25 I received a call from Navtrak to find out if i had moved the car. I informed them it was in the garage and to put the system into valet mode which they did.
I then contacted PTS as they had obviously done something with the car now. They informed me the car had no water in the engine and it had overheated and it would not be covered under warranty and the repair bill this time would be £3500.
These guys must be good as they could tell all that from just lifting the bonnet.
I asked for an engineers report to clarify this under my warranty which I got two weeks later.
I informed them I would have the car picked up and taken somewhere else as I was not going to be paying them another penny only to find out i had a bill of £580 for the report they did for me.
I paid this to get my car back and had it shipped of to API engines to do the rebuild this time. API engines quoted £2800 and about two weeks to be back on the road.
When API got the car ready to go back together they called to inform me there was sump with it(they gave me a free one)so I contacted PTS to find its whereabouts to be told they had in their sink and will forward it on. 20mins later another call from API this time no flywheel no radiator assembly and my camshaft has been damaged.
The damage to the camshaft was not caused by the engine damage acoording to their mechanic but more than likely hit with a hammer by my now friends at PTS(probably their way of getting back at me for taking the car somewhere else) I again called PTS to find the whereabouts of my missing engine parts only to be told they were put in the boot of the car by the manager himself and they did not have them.
When API got the sump delivered from PTS they also found they had flywheel and radiator assembly which apparently where in the boot of my car(funny that eh)
API Engines have been great with the work they have done to fix a complete ****up made by PERFORMANCE TUBRO SYSTEMS and I have no hesitation in recommending them to any scooby owner.
I look forward to seeing PTS in court and will keep you posted of the outcome.
BEWARE PTS DONT GO THERE NOT EVEN FOR AN OIL CHANGE.

I really feel for you mate.
I had similar problems with that bunch of cowboy's.
if you need any help or advice on dealing with them dont fear to ask (as it would be a pleasure to help get back at those tossers)

PTS had my frinds RSTurbo for 9 weeks because of a starting problems and oil deposits ... eventually looking they changed it and done the job..... after they diagnosed the turbo failure , took it back the next day saying the damm thing won't run properly... the turbo change cost £1500 wich was bad enough as the car cost 2k . now they checked the car over again and noticed the performance camshaft they fitted 2k miles ago was worn to bits and the lobes were rounded off. So they ordered a camshaft kit from kent cam under warrenty..... warrenty my ***.....after they fitted the new cam the persisited to charge for the fitting AND the camshaft kit 500 quid.

Now knowing what they are like i would never ever take my car there ... friggin monkeys

Ferk me mate, if you can afford over 5G for work on your engine you must be minted, and probably could have bought a real car! Only joking mate!

Thats one hell of a rip off, i'd get someone to look at the engineers report and also seek legal advice! Thats a whole lot of moolah, but atleast youve found some one you can now trust!

Don't own an import but if I did - from these stories - I'd go straight to someone reputable like Graham Goode etc. It wouldn't be the cheapest but you know it would work or they'd make sure it would work.

Dont go to GG unless you are a lottery winner they quoted me £10000 plus for a standard rebuild on a 93 WRX RA !!!!!

1. Got a Superchip from PTS engine lasted 60 miles and went bang !!

2. Had it rebuilt by Cowboys at Bill Gwynne's quote £2500 bill over £5000 lasted 20000 miles went bang, (later found out they farmed it out !!!). Took no responsability but did offer to do it again for a special price of about £2500. !

My brother had a Race Logic traction control fitted to his Tuscan by these clowns, they had to fit speed sensors which lasted about 10 miles and then the bloke who set it up on the lap top looked like he'd struggle to program a number into a mobile!!

I waited there for 4 hours while they tried to solve the problems, they test drove the car for 0.5 mile in the 2 weeks they had it. As far as I'm concerned it was the most unprofessional tuning garage/workshop I've ever been too!

I also had a bad experience with PTS when they were at their old place (Harpenden?) have heard nothing but bad things from that company. If you want a job doing properly DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT PTS.

I had a fiesta rs turbo that was worked on by them. It blew up as they had put in wrong psi settings. I didnt trust them to do the work as it was said id have to spend £750 for the investigation, what a crock! I ended up going to Ford and getting an engine from them directly for£700 and getting it fitted by an ex ford rally mechanic.

LONG AND THE SHORT OF IT ONLY TAKE YOUR CAR TO PLACES THAT HAVE THE HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS.

Also went to look at an escort cossie at junction 28 nottingham, saw a PTS sticker on the windshield and said to the salesman Im not interested at any price.

Flat 4
ive had trouble with GGR as well. I took my car up for a syncro to be changed in second gear. After a week i called for an update and was told the car was being tested ON TRACK for the problem. No1 asked me this prior, and i specifically told them the job that needed to be done, and anyway the fault was more than noticable after a 5 min normal road run. I waited an extra 2 weeks for my car and was presented with a £900 bill that was way over my quote. I have since been told that a job of this nature is well over the top price wise, correct me if im wrong anyone!

hi, i'm afraid i too have had a very bad experience at the dreaded PTS!
having had my RS turbo engine rebuilt and modified by specialsed engines (exellent work may i add!!!) i decided, as they were local, to get it set up on there rolling road.
I told the operater of the mods on the engine (which now had just over 1500 miles on it) and trusted him with the car! during the session, which i was NOT allowed to view, i was told that it needed new plugs and a new bleed valve as mine were not working right, i agreed to this as i figured it was best for the car.
afterwards I was told the car had 176bhp, and 245lbf torque!!!! how they came to this i will never know, it was and still is a 1600cc engine!
shortly after having the tune, (about 3 days) it began to misfire, at first only after a good run, but more and more, so i changed the plugs, this cured the misfire and i was happy again, until again, about 2-3 days later, the misfire returned. Chatting tio a freind about it, he looked horrified when i told him where it had been set up, he told me if i did nothing else that week, "GET THAT CAR TO POWER ENGINEERING AND SET IT UP RIGHT!!"
I did this, and after a slow drive to middlesex, the fuel pressure was incresed so that it registered on the meter! the plugs were changed AGAIN! the timing was set up properly, and the boost level altered to a safer level, all this to a car that had supposedly been set up not 2 weeks earlier!!!
oh and the power readings?
209bhp
206lbf torque

DO NOT RISK YOUR CAR AT PTS.

Has anyone else used SCC in StAlbans? Im looking into Scoobies but the only worrying thing is the servicing costs, any decent specialst garage would be an excellent alternative to a dealership .

Im in Bedford so are there anyother suggestions? Matbe Milton Keynes?

My dad took his car to PTS in Luton for a sticking valve..

It took £2000 and 3 rebuilds before the car would drive again, and it still burns a litre of oil every 500 miles.. never touched a drop before the valve problem

There is a garage in luton called D H Auto's who i bring my car to, and they have had several cars come in for engine rebuilds after PTS have fixed them !!!!!

They should be closed down !!!!

Dug this up using search on PTS. Was just checking to see how competent their Rolling Road Operators were as there is a GB on for the RR next weekend which I have signed up for.

Cant really knock their RR operators or RR, i have been there a few times with most of my cars for power runs only.

Have seen some scary stuff going on when looking in the workshop!

Zen performance in Northampton would be my choice for any scoob work if i didnt do it myself.. Owned by a very well known/respected member of this board..

Default Stay away from SCC!!

Hi guys

sorry to jump on the wagon, but really with Japanese cars stay away from SCC in St Albans. I used to have a Celica Gt4 and it was one nightmare after another with them. (I cannot vouch for their work in Cosworths etc, but Japanese i would stay well clear).

1. They fitted my dump valve to the wrong pipe after inspection for an oil leak, so it stayed open the whole time.
2. They fitted a speed delimiter for me except really poor soldering job on the ECU and it didn't work!!
3. Refitted my brake pads without clips so they rattled!!

Stay away is my advice!!

Ask anyone who knows me what i think of SCC

Was saving that for a new thread, i had heard that they stopped servicing scoobs after numerous big end failure...
Rather scarily, i have a blue Terzo outside my house... a friend of mine called me and said he needed a big favour... his mates car has just been serviced at SCC and now it is rattling like a bag of spanners... Hence my post for an engine in Wanted forum

They didn't want to entertain the fact that it happend whilst leaving their premises.
