Default Blocking "unsavoury" websites

I've had a request from a friend to restrict her son's web browsing.

Apparently he's getting into all sorts of mischief!

It's been a while since I've been tasked with this, so my knowledge may be out of date.

I always used OpenDNS's Family guard DNS servers back end with some soft of software on the front to monitor activity.

What would you guys recommend?

J

my router has the functions to do what you want, its a Netgear,
also you can limit his access by times so you know he isnt sneaking on when he shouldnt.

Have a look and see if the belkin can be flashed with dd-wrt or tomato (think that is the name) firmware as they should be able to do what you want

A non-techie version would be to get mum to sit next to the lad and browse through his recent history.

The embaressment alone should stop it until he's old enough for his own laptop (portable **** station)

i use opendns, works well -- you will have to lock down the client so they can't overide the DNS settings

but ultimately you can't stop this sort of behaviour with technology

I use MS Family Safety which I find quite good for controlling what sites my kids can visit.

and it free.
