Default iPhone 4S issue

Brand new 64GB 4S.

A few times with core Apple apps (browser, Message) the screen freezes when I open the keyboard.

The keyboard opens with Caps Lock on (which I realise is normal) and then the whole screen freezes.

Even if I kill the app in memory (physical button works fine) it reopens with the same error so it would seem the keyboard object is stateful.

Any clues - or just get a new handset?

Restoring now - interesting it is downloading a software update. Only a week old and I don't recall it getting one before.

Will see what happens - unfortunately it was a rare but frustrating bug - so it may not happen for a few days.

I haven't heard of any others doing that -- if it does keep doing it even after the restore and update to 5.0.1 you should make an appointment at an Apple store and they will test it and most likely replace.

Will they do that even if the phone was supplied by Orange?

Also it has only happened a couple of times - and both times it cleared by a restart.

I doubt it's hardware, restore should sort it out.

Done a restore - let's see what happens.

Yes - hard to believe it is hardware as well - but it has done it out of the box.

Thinking about it - it is definitely the Keyboard object.

They don't really care when they phone was supplied from originally. They will check it and if they have to replace the handset will re-apply the network lock.
