Default System Restore

Had a crash this morning whilst Thunderbird was restarting. Now TB wont work fully and Want it to as many old emails are there.

I've tried all the usual stuff to no avail

Can I use system restore to go back to make TB work again?

Thanks

how old are the emails?
I have just done a system restore on my comp (WIN7/ie8) and anything sent after the restore date was missing (expected that to be the case... ). With virginmedia you can access your emails on-line - I just 'forwarded' the missing ones to myself

They're quite old now (maybe 2 years)

Last restore point was 2 weeks ago

Other thing is what's the alternative 'free' email program apart from Thunderbird?

Before you do a restore get a copy of your thunderbird profile folder and the profiles.ini file. Once you have that safe, try a reinstall of thunderbird, copy back the folder and .ini file and see if it works. With any luck you wont have lost any recent emails then.
