Question

Hi peeps,

Need your help again, Nick BIG thanks for your help with upgrading the BIOS!!!

I've (now) got an ABIT KT7A RAID board with the latest BIOS (7N), but it's version 1.1, so I can "only" go up to a 1.4 GHz.....

I've been looking at some processors, but I don't know what bus speed I've got to look for.....

Also, trying to find a cheap CPU too - what sort of price can I expect to pay?

Again, ScoobyNetters - BIG thanks in advance

Dan

Do you know if you RAM is PC100 or PC133? Might have a sticker on it if you are lucky.

The Kt7a can happily take 100(200) and 133(266) bus speed thunderbird processors, up to a 1.4gig processor, unless you have the very newest revision that can also take XP chips. It can also take PC100 and PC133 memory. The speed settings are all set up in the Sofmenu in the BIOS.

As correctly stated, the KT7A can take either 200 or 266 chips, but will run them at 200. You cannot run the new AthlonXP chips on this board, it will have to be either the Duron or Athlon Thunderbird. There's an excellent guide to the KT7 board here :

Paul's Unofficial KT7 FAQ

and if you're looking to buy a new chip check this store :

This site also has forums with a for sale section, so you may be able to pick up a second hand bargain. Also the people in the hardware forums are very knowledgable and helpful.
