err. I don't understand your answer, may be I should have put a question mark at the end.
It's a real question
Are you a X box owner by any chance, a bit up tight aren't we?
Is it quicker/better than the following :-
AT 1400
512mb ram
Gforce2 GTS.
Abit KT7A 133hz M/B

bumcrack,
My thoughts exactly. It's not exactly a kid's toy either given the cost of the games (but then I'm not a parent so wouldn't know how much you spend on kids )
You can also use PC for useful things, like apps, music, browsing Scoobynet
Given that most games will be coming out on PC anyway (albeit with a delay) I can't see any reason in getting one (for myself).
Maybe I'm just sensible and not loaded like the rest of you
I do have a PS2, but not one of the mines better than yours brigade because more often than not, yours is better than mine
Not a pop at X-Box owners, just my own views

I'm not an Xbox owner but am going to be buying one at the weekend for the simple reason that I work on a PC all day and sick of the sight of them by the time I get home.
A games machine is a hell of a lot better on a 32" wide screen TV than a monitor

I thought that an X box had both a custom CPU and a custom graphics chip that enables it to transfer an enourmous amount of data between the two? This allows the X-box to process vast amount of information much much quicker than the spec pc you mentioned. I dunno the exact terms but has it not got to do with the gigabytes of info (bandwidth) it can transfer rather than the speed of the chip. If the X-box can process much much much more than a 1.4ghz chip what is the point in having a chip that is not required? Get a lotus 7 or exsiege and it will thrash a V12 dodge charger around a track. Just cause there is 1.4ghz in you machine does not mean it is better.

I've got a pc, but the amount of time it takes to get a game to run properly on it means I'll probably get an x-box once some decent (IMHO) games come out on it (esp GP4, fingers crossed that it'll be worth the wait).
I for one like to get a new game, slot it in and play it, not spend 3 hours getting the frame rate optimised, then another hour downloading patches to get the sound working followed by another 2 hours trying to convince the control pad that it is actually plugged in

ya, I thought that the sum of the parts might be greater than the whole spec wise, but not sure.
I built my own PC so it cost about £250. I like the idea of not having to **** about with patchs, frame rates and the many other problems you get with PC's
So would anybody like to take a guess what sort of PC's spec the Xbox is equal too.
I like the depth of the games on PC and find PS2 a bit boring.
When I played games like Swat3 and Operation Flash Point I was hooked.
Regards

I agree no point if you have a monster PC - I run a crappy PC at home though, so for less than the cost of a top spec graphics card and sound card I am playing current generation 3D games - schweet

Is it not kind of based on Windows 2000?
AS in a now OLD version of Windows, could Microsoft be arsed to actually do something new? Do they heck, "pretend" it is new and flog it at such a high price that they can afford to drop it £100 - is that not saying something????
Still, I get to play on an X-Box soon. Not my first choice of console, but for somthing I won't have to pay for, I won't complain too much

I disagree chelle the drop in price is due to lack of intitial sales and the recent announcement of the drop in price of the game cube. If Microsoft can flood the market with X-box's then who is gunna buy a gamecube that is less powerful? The idea is to make all the money from the games and looking at the console market at the moment then this was the only option they had. I just don't understand the point to keep comparing it to a pc, yes it is based on PC technology but when it comes down to it is a entertainment system design for the home. I would like to see you hook your so called "Amazing games playing pc" up to your tv and play it while sat at home. At present PC games are nowhere near the complexity or demand so much of your PC processing power. Why you ask? If they made games for top end PC specs then it is not going to sell, the % of top end PC's is minimal, it is a better idea to produce a game that runs well on an average spec pc so you can ship more units. Take medal of honour for instance, I have a high spec PC and was able to run it at full whack, was it better graphically than Halo? No! Next time you play Halo get into a flying vehicle and fly upwards then look down, I would like to see your PC cope with the rendering involved in that huge scape. Why has no busy kicked up a fuss about claming their PC is better than a PS2? heh I would like to see MGS2 run as well on a PC as it does on the PS2. I for one have no intention in buying an X-box but then I am not jumping on the "Oh my pc is better than an X-box as I have a faster processor" bandwagon. Just appreciate the X-box for what it is, the most powerful HOME entertainment unit available at this point in time and not a sodding PC!!!!

Now I'm just waiting for someone to figure out how to get a decent open OS onto it. AFter all, a PII 733, 10GB hard disc, 64MB RAM, DVD drive, and decent NVIDIA graphics card cost more than 200 quid.
Plus it's small, so it'd make a good MP3 player for the car

It didn't know there was a bandwagon and everything to jump on Damaja
The wagon I'm on is "I don't know much about Xbox's or PC's" and I thought one of you lot might.

Bumcrack, The XBOX is a console - console have been around for years!!!! you telling me you don't understand why people buy consoles
If you still don't understand then goto a search engine and type in what is a console
Chiark - xbox doesn't support MP3, well unless someone hacks it

Bumcrack - that PC spec you mentioned wouldn't even come close to in graphic performance with the XBOX. If you upgraded your card to a GF4 Ti4600 then you would be able to say that your PC is on par or slightly faster than the XBOX.

Nice one Damaja I was wondering when someone was actually going to make the point. Bumcrack and a lot of other people keep talking about how the Xbox is a PC in a box. I think the name Microsoft is the only reason why people say this. Tell me why that comparison can't be made with a PS2 or a Gamecube all 3 are consoles i.e. they're designed to play games and nothing else. What makes the Xbox so much better for games then a PC is the fact the us as developers know the exact spec and can try and rinse it dry. With a PC you have to cater for such a wide range of specs that even on a top end pc you're not going to get what you're machine is totally capable of. once developers start to really get to grips with the Xbox you're going to see the true power of it, things are only just warming up.

Hang on you lot,
I'm asking how it compares, don't tar me with slaging it off and of course I know what a console is, I never said I didn't. What I didn't know is how much better than my pc it was.
Also without knowing much about computers I think the average man/women would look at the spec of the Xbox and think the same as me(before I was enlighted of course).
We all aren't computer geeks you know
Don't go puting words in my mouth

Just play along being the bad man, go on you know you hate the X-box and think your desktop PC is more powerful than Hal off of 2001 space odyssey

Well I don't like the XBox, I had one for a week, now I use it for my footrest, I reckon my PC is much better, and as soon as an XBox emulator comes out sales will go through the floor
