I am launching a new website for a new business and I have 2 partner companies involved. They have links on their respective websites pointing to my site.

Question is, if a customer purchases my product, how can I find out which site he originally linked from if it is one of the partner sites.

This information will allow me to pay referal comission to the correct partner company.

cheers

Use HTTP_REFER environment variable in your scripts so that you can record which site the lin came from.

You can use HTTP_REFERER but don't ever rely on it, it's totally up to the client as to what this is set to, or even if it's set at all. If money is changing hands because of it, then you need to steer clear and find another more reliable method.

Hello

You can also just ask them to append a parameter to the link to your site.

So you end up with:

http://www.mysite.com?from=steve
http://www.mysite.com?from=joanna

and then just record the "from".
