Depends what you want to do. ie; go to shop and buy a 'package' one, or buy the bits and build it yourself. You would be very surprised how easy it is to build a pc, put it this way, if I can build them, anyone can! hell, even a muppet like nixs can build one
building your own does save some of the cost, plus you can spec it exactly as you want it.

Fosters has just put together a lovely little spec for upgrading. Maybe's adding a case and floppy, etc to it would make up a cracking system ?

go to a computer market, i have built a 1600xp, 256ddr, 40gb hd gforce 2 mx400, 19 inch monitor, sound blaster live, 12x dvd for £700
web site at www.computermarkets.com
for £900 you could build a mega system built to your needs rather than buy an all in one which doesn't quite have the exact spec u want.

Thanks guys. Some great info, I've been asked to source one for a friend however he does not want to build one despite me telling him how much he could save.
The Fujitsu systems are well priced, it looks like he's going to go for the T-Bird 1700 combo, anyone have any thoughts/experience with this model?
Can anyone point me to somewhere with more info on building a PC yourself, I think I'm going to give it a go!

I have an older version of the T-Bird and it has been very reliable. The only problem was with the supplier who forgot to order it and after 3 weeks they said they would have to order it again. I contacted Fujitsu and they plucked one off the production line that day and couriered it to me after the hassle I had. I was well impressed by their level of service. The PC is now 3 years old and is still going strong with not a hitch(touch wood). I would defo recommend a T-Bird.

Don't flame me for this Taz, as I realise that it is trivial, but the 'Thunderbird' refers to the revision of the core. These were not in production 3 years ago, if memory serves. The original Athlon's were slot A cpu's. When the Athlon dropped to Socket A, it recieved it's revised 'Thunderbird' core. The name of your core escapes me.....
Athlons are excellent, but the one major niggle with them is the amount of HEAT that they produce, at least with the chips over 900mhz or so.... As long as the heatsink is good, then you will have a good performer
Cheers,
Nick
