Help, I've lost all my contacts
#1
Well, after an extremely unsuccessfull attempt at upgrading from ME TO XP I've managed to lose 3 years worth of email and all my contacts. Don't even offer suggestions please folks, the HDD is now re-formatted.
What I would appreciate however is a quick mail from anyone who knows me just so I can get my address book back to "normal".
Phil, John S etc.
Let this be a warning to you all. If it's not broken, DON'T TRY TO FIX IT!!!
Dave Scott.

No smart alec's here . Just highly skilled technical people
Unfortunately since the disc was formatted, it's pretty much all over - unless you have a .pst backup lurking about somewhere ....

I believe the problem is with the versions of IE. It seems like you have to have the latest one on the machine before you backup your files otherwise it falls over.
Does this mean you lost your SCGT files too?

Are you MAD!!, I had my SCGT files backed up, I'm not THAT dense!! lol.
In fact even weirder, Sportscar GT still runs from the other drive so I guess it doesn't get entered in the registry of the main drive when you add the fixed exe.
Anyway...
I found a file called undo, which has loads of cab files and stuff, but I don't have a clue what to do with them.
Anyone?
Thanks, Dave.

Do a search (find files) on .pst and see what happens.
Did you honestly reformat your HDD before installing XP? Or just guessing? Was it an u/grade disc or OEM? You've obviously got a 2nd HDD - what is on that? Any .pst? (assuming .pst as in Outlook or Outlook Express).
If you have genuinely reformated your HDD you are probably fooked If it is an u/grade only, although your file format may have changed (Fat - NTFS?) you still should be OK as an OS install won't o/write non system stuff - well shouldn't.

I copied some folders over to the other drive before I reformatted, but can't find a .pst file.
Never mind, I do have a printed record of actual customers so it's just friends, enquieries and **** I've lost
It was an upgrade I did. I should have installed onto a clean fresh drive but I was being a lazy get, serves me right.
If I'd lost my images then this PC would be at the local dump by now. And yes, I have backed everything up now
Thanks for all your help/suggestions/I told you so's etc.
