Default Using VLC media player for 1080p

I had been having problems using the current version of the VLC media player 1.1.3 I think , when playing 1080p video files.
Came across this cure and it works .

I know what you mean, I used it for years as well, just hasn't kept up in the Open Sauce market and is out dated in terms of HD play back.

In what way are the other players actually better? I've tried them, and they work, but then those does VLC. What am I missing?

(OK Miro has torrent stuff, but I don't use that now anyway)

Oh no

Never download codec packs unless you really need them. They are AMAZING until they go wrong, and then they are a total PITA to get all the rubbish out
