New laptop, which one?
As above really,
I've had my current laptop over 3 years now and while it still works ok i fancy something a bit newer with a HD screen maybe. My main use is internet really and generally the only game i ever play is Football Manager.
What would you guys recommend? around say £700-£800 mark. If you're going to recommend Apple what restrictions will i encounter over other systems?
Thanks for reading Aaron

My Apple has just had its tenth birthday and the only restriction is its woeful processor speed compared to newer machines. Apart from that, still going strong √

I use my late 06 MacBook every day at work and it's still more than adequate. Collegues who told me it was too expensive have bought two or three machines in that time.

£700-800 is alot for a laptop which is only used for browsing the internet and playing football manager.
My brother just bought this laptop. Can't fault it so far. Could get one £100 cheaper if you didn't want the latest i3 processor.

Funny that, my current Tosh was cheaper, its older, and I've never had a issue with it.
I'm always wary of Samsung; I see them as Jack of all trades, master of none. Their HDs are the quietest in their class, however my new Samsung fridge freezer isn't, and is the noisiest new fridge I've ever heard (it was cheap however the near silent fridgemaster it replaced was ever cheaper, of which now resides in my works office - I want it back).
Anyhoo, back to laptops......

Ah, that's why you drive a Hyundai is it.
Mine was £999 almost four years ago, never needed better spec as it still does everything superbly, including some quite heavy HD video work. I'm going to keep it till it's five so that's £200 a year, you crack on spending double that for Hyundai spec machinery.

You'll never get it through to them. We just replaced our 9yo G4 Quicksilvers at w*rk with Mac Pro's just for software requirements. They all still functioned perfectly well and were easily up to the job, but the new software was written for Intel units and so forced an upgrade. The never needed a technician and simply got on with the job. The raft of Dell/Windoze machines have a techy to look after them and are on an 18 month replacement cycle. Our Dell servers also require 24/7/365 support costing us a fortune, and still fail occasionally costing us even more. My own Mac has made it to 10 years old and has never needed anything more than my attention to pop in a new HDD and change the DVD ROM for an RW. My next door neighbour is on his 4th Windoze lappy in 10 years

Has anyone got or tried a dell adamo maybe its time to upgrade.
I have a dell xps 13 since about 2006 and I am trying to think of a reason to replace it, they seem to go on forever and I get 8 hours battery life from each battery when I travel.

If you want a 1080p capeable screen; then this'll do nicely ( 15.5" though ): http://www.lambda-tek.com/components...ld=#productTop
If you don't need 1080p then you can cut the budget significantly or buy an macbook:
If you can live with a 13.3" screen and no numerical keypad and no SD card reader: http://www.lambda-tek.com/components...prodID=B256438
Or for a SD reader, numerical keypad and bigger 15.6" screen: http://www.lambda-tek.com/components...ld=#productTop
If you can live without a numerical keypad this is better value: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/194297...edium=products
If you fancy 17" and a better processor, this'll do: http://www.lambda-tek.com/components...prodID=B452698
Obviously downside of going bigger/more powerful will be battery life. I'm not sure what specific graphic requirements are needed to run Footy Manager, so you better double check before placing any order to make sure the internal graphics card is up to the job.

1080p on a laptop is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. you wont see any difference between 480p and a 1080p because the laptops screen is just to small. But as said output to a telley is different though

second one from the right £549, with the core i3, 4gb ddr3 1333 ram, 500gb hd, radeon 1gb mobility 5470.
plenty of grunt for what you want it for

I still use one of these!!
http://www.zdnet.co.uk/reviews/ultra...-x22-10000269/
Had to replace a screen (bought a cheap broken one on ebay and stole the screen from it) and a battery (as expected to be honest)
Apart from that, it still works, although i suspect it might only last another year or so.
It can get pretty "chuggy" on XP if its needing updates, but i usually run Ubuntu on it, and it zips along fine

I had a latitude C510 from the same era (PIII), nowt wrong with it. I stuck open office onto it and gave it to my neighbour so she can type her letters of complaints to the BBC with it
We still have one remianing PIII Hewlet Packard Vectra desktop at work. Originally paid £100 for it (I original bought ten second hand for £1K about seven years ago including CRT monitors, sold half on for profit). It still chugs along happily, using the RAM from the retired Vectras to give it a bit more speed. Well it did work fine until someone installed iTunes on it, and allowed Adobe to run riot with browser toolbars and memory hogging quick launchers/update checkers, which basically killed it. Disabled it all on start up and its happy again.
Once I've tested out Ubuntu properly, I'll stick that on it, or maybe Xubuntu and will take a few other Vectras back out of retirement.

We just bought a Dell Vostro 3700. All in it was just over £500.
I'm sure it would play a manager game and you don't need to spend a fortune to look at the internet.
Personally I struggle to see the point of expensive laptops other than ePenis points.

The link takes you to the Dell Site to the specific model listed.
Makes comparing models a lot easier.
Used it when I bought mine last year.
