X-Box BEST PRICES

Looking at buying an X-Box.
I want it to be my main DVD Player (DVD is supposed to be much better than PS2) as well as mighty fine Games Machine. I have been told i require an extra controller if i want to use it as a DVD player, is this correct? Are there any other essential extras i should get hold of?
Games wise i'm told "Gotham Racing" & "Halo" are must haves, any others to consider?
Thanks for your advice.

You'll need the DVD add-on to watch DVD movies not another controller. The add on is actually a little IR reciever that plugs into a controller port and you get a remote control to.
If you like driving games, get Rallisport Challenge, tis most excellent

Got mine from EB. (called "Game" in some areas)
They matched the deal Dixons was doing, but Dixons would only supply with certain games, EB done the same deal with any games (my choice).
Gotham and Halo are must haves, also try Fusion frenzy (brilliant party game with friends, crap on your own), Rallysport challenge (I love it), Dead or Alive £ (really good fighting game), NHL 2002 (I love ice-hockey, if you are not into hockey then don't bother, if you are then get it.)
Some of the other sports titles are good, if you are into those sports (soccer, basketball etc...).
Graphics are truelly awesome....... get it asap.
Oh yes, you do need the dvd controller, but that is included with some of the deals.

GTA3 is being ported to X Box as we speak and the best deal I found was www.softwarefirst.com for the controller and one game with additional games from

Evelfranky - you sound like a bitter PS2 owner whose gutted something so much better has been released. Whats wrong with being a PC? PC's dick on the PS2 for graphics.
I was a PS2 owner and very cautious about the Xbox, I and 3 mates played Halo on the morning the Xbox was released and didnt stop all day until his girlfriend chucked us out I was gobsmacked at the graphics and attention to detail.
Dont know if its 32 or 64bit but I dont care - the proof of the pudding is in the playing.
Simon.

Wow, DJ Dunk = Mr Statto
Quite frankly I couldn't care less which one is more powerful etc. What really matters to me is the quality of the games. Now the PS2 is 2 years old so its bound to have more titles available for it.
Going by the quality of the launch titles for the XBOX I think it has a really good future ahead of it.
What was the quality of the few PS2 launch titles? Average to good mainly. I played on one when it was first launched and on that experience I decided not to buy one.
I got an XBOX because Dabs.com made a huge mistake with the pricing of a bundle and I took advantage of it
I'd have to say though that I haven't regretted buying it one little bit.
My advice to anyone thinking about buying one is to have a look through the type of games available for it, then if they appeal to you wrangle a go on one. Then make up your own mind.

Sorry to **** on your warm flaming fire (and kill u at CS ) but the future fo the XBOX is very bleak to say the least

IMHO the XBOX is the most powerful console out there but if the sales figures do carrying on the way they are (especially in japan) then the lovely XBOX under neither your TV will no longer be competing with the PS2 & gamecube for market share but with the dreamcast on collecting dust!

As for the future, it's the games that count, and the fact that the architecture is DirectX based means there are loads of Devco's already able to understand how to get good performance out of the box.
Also, Microsoft gives over $10 billion to charity a year: with that much cash at their disposal they'll give the damn thing away if they have to. Besides, PS1 and PS2 got a real badmouthing when they launched. It's just same old, same old if you ask me
I've got one (to declare my position) and am very pleased so far. Just finished Halo, which is one of the best games I've played in ages, and can't wait for Colin MacRae 3

The launch games are very impressive but microsoft have got mount Everest to climb to persuade the jap market to acccept the xbox. Read somewhere that microsoft needs all markets US, europe & asia for the xbox to survive. IMO europe is doing crap due to over pricing (50% more that US ) and the japs haven't got any games with cute characters in

I read that Microsoft are losing £80 on every X Box sold. However in UK, the price of the console is £50 more than it should be after taking into account, costs etc. Also some retailers are buying the X Boxes cheaper from Microsoft and instead of charging £245 are selling them at £299.99.
Plus if you go into Woolies, or EB or whatever and take a look around. What do you see? A whole row of PS1 and PS2 games, I know most of them are rubbish games but couple that with the price of a PS2 with 4 games, including GT3 and MGS priced at between £229 and £249 AND the gamecube at around £170 or £199.99 with a game and you can see why the X Box at £299.99 just for the console, ain't doing very well!!
All the mums and dads will go for the PS2 or the Gamecube for the kids, it is a lot cheaper, you get 4 games, you can play dvd's from the box etc etc. It doesn't matter how good the system is IF it is too expensive AND there is not enough choice of games, then it won't do well.
I would love an X Box, the prospects of what it could do are mouth watering and it does wipe the floor with PS2 as far as graphics are concerned BUT at 299.99 and all the extras I would need, DVD remote, cables etc, I just can't justify it.
Bring the price down to around £175 to £200 with DVD remote included. Knock the price of games down to £35 to £40, then if the user base can be built up, then there will be money to be made from the X Box!(Remember games are what bring the money in for console manufactures).
I expect Microsoft to do something in the next 4-6 weeks regarding the price especially with the Gamecube coming out soon........

Ok, I'll declare my position first - I have never bought a games console and I'm crap at computer games, work in the IT industry and used to work for a company that sold consoles/games some time back.
It doesn't matter too much whether the X-Box has 600mhz or a 2mhz chip, I understand that the graphics etc are good, but not really much better than the PS2. And gameplay is pretty much on a par...
Its game availabilty and price which really matter. While there are loads of Playstation games available from £9.99, but all the X-Box games retail @ £45+, there is no real competition. There are only so many games @ £45 people will buy... I suspect that if it is only really a PC then lots of gamers already have decent PC's so they need some really 'killer apps' to get these people to buy an X box as well.
It would be nice to see the games market full of competition, but if microsoft wants to, I'm sure it can dominate the games market even without the best games/kit after all they're not sort of a few $$$. Whereas sony is japenese and probably suffering more as a result of japanese recession and certainly doesnt have pockets as deep as bill's!
Me, I'll stick to snake on my mobile phone for now, about the right level for me

lets not forget that the Xbox's killer game "Halo" aint out in Japan until 25 April.
Also, its still early days for the machine, and looking ahead over the next 3-6 months there are some new "must have" titles coming excl. to the unit - i.e Morrowind, Unreal Championship, Jager, so things should be looking up for the Box.
IMHO give it another 6 months, a couple of price cuts and some new killer games and the Xbox will have a bright future...

X-Box has one major failing....it's built by the Evil empire That's enough for me not to buy it
I have played most games on it, it is highly impressive, but at the end of the day, I only really liked three of the games on there. Not really that impressive after all. You have to have gameplay as well as graphics.
Sony provide much more entertainment for me on the PS2.
Having said that I actually own neither console and would love to. I would buy the PS2 myself soon, but given the limited amount of decent games and maker of the X-Box I would prefer to have that bought for me than spend my own money on it,
Right, how much were they again?
