FSC v Sun I am off to see a large uni in Scotland who have some money and don't want to buy Sun. Why? because off poor customer support.. won't take much of an arguement me thinks!!

I am looking to get a new laptop for a friend. It needs to have the following...

Firewire port
CDRW drive
1GHz or greater
256b memory
20Gb disk preferrably minimum

Dont really want to spend much more than a Grand.

Anyone help ????

There was an FSC Amilo doing the rounds but it was a tiny tad more than 1k... (1200 I seem to remember)

The CDRW is going to take the price above 1k me thinks

I don't know of anything at that spec for less than a grand (though I steer clear of the non-brand laptops).

The CDRW+Firewire really narrows the market a lot.

Have you thought about a decent laptop, with a Firewire card and external CDRW?

Otherwise, the closest I can find is an end of line Acer Aspire 1.2Ghz Celeron, CDRW+DVD, Modem+LAN, 10Gb HD but no firewire. Cost (depending on supply) is about 920+VAT, plus you need a firewire card (about 60+VAT).
