I'm thinking about buying a 32" flat screen Sony TV, which will replace an old 21" conventional screen.

The question is ... will the games look better or worse?
Will I see pixelation with the larger screen?

Any thoughts?

I've got it on a 32" and it's fine but then I don't sit right up to the screen anyway!

 

Get an s-video connection.

Far better pic on our 32" than scart or comp video.

 

I run my PS2 on a Panasonic 48" widescreen and it looks rather yummy. Pixelation? nope!

Mate brought his ps2 round to plug into the my projector and surround system. GT3 is awesome 6 ft wide. Watching the replays is actually better than the game

 

Your actually all speaking bo*locks..A playstation will look worse on a wide screen 32"...than a 21"...4:3.PS2 resolution is 800x600 about right for 21".bigger=worse..i sold mine cause it looked awful..got X-Box now which runs higher resolution which is perfect for my 32" widescreen....

Saying that,if you run a 100hz 32"..you may be ok..

Ima, where do you get your information from?

AFAIK, the x-box internally renders at only 640x480, this image can then be interlaced to create the illusion of a higher resolution on a high definition TV(to the best of my knowledge none have yet been released in the UK). The PS2 is also capable of outputing in higher resolutions, although I am even less clear on how it does this.

As a side note, why would a PAL TV be able to display 800x600 when a PAL signal only comes in 625 lines in the first place?


I'm no expert on console resolutions, but your post makes no sense to me at all.


Back to the original question, unles you plan on sitting 6 inches from the TV screen (in which case can I recommend you don't ) the picture will look better (bigger really, but when playing games that's all that really counts) on the 32" TV

Ima - not sure if you realised whilst you had the PS2, but you can change the res and screen setup. I have recently bought a WS TV, and was worried when GT3 and GTA3 looked horrible and thin. However once set to 16:9 both games look superb and better than my old 21/24" thing.

If the game has a proper 16:9 output option (ie GT3), it WILL look better than a 4:3 TV. I don't care as I have a 16:9 option on my large screen Tosh 4:3 TV, so I have the best of both worlds.

The screen resolution is irrelevant with the outputs mentioned here. If the game has a 16:9 option and turned on, it will give extra width to the picture NOT just stretch it!!!!!

My reply made no sense to me either.....The bloke at Toys R Us told me that info..obviously a simpletons reply to a simple person ie me....But if you look at the edges of a PS2 game on a big TV it is blurry...but on x-box it is perfect.....

PS i run a 100hz widescreen which has digital processing made up of dots not lines..

Ima all TV pictures are made of dots. Lines of dots in actual fact. If it can display a PAL signal it will have 625 lines of dots. The refresh rate makes no difference to resolution. Digital TV's still use raster scanning to display the picture, so unles you have a plasma screen someone is feeding you bull !!

 

OK OK....I know nothing..Who cares..all i know is X-box is better than PS2...A 100hz digital scanning TV is better than a cheap one..and of course J-Lo..is much finer than Mariah Carey...
