Default RAM in i-mac.....doh!

Just bought 1GB RAM module. Fully expected to find one 1GB module already in there so I could jump straight to 2GB. Of course I found two 500MB modules in there when I looked. So I have to get another 1GB module to get me to 2GB. I should have checked, but what a pain in the butt!

smaller modules are cheaper for apple and there's the added bonus that you have to get them in 2s, so even more revenue for apple

i would have got 2x2gb though

I'm guessing you didn't get the RAM direct from Apple? They do overprice RAM quite a bit. It's why whenever I know someone is getting a Mac from them I tell them to simply go with the default RAM allocation, or lower it if possible, then go and get the same spec RAM from somewhere like Crucial which will be cheaper than Apple.

Yep, RAM from e-bay not Apple. I should have checked the RAM slots, but just assumed as there was 1GB in place there would be a slot free for another 1GB module. As you can tell I know loads about computers!
