Ah.... great spot - this is superb news!

I've just, this evening, moved from my current TV+phone+broadband package with Virgin, which was costing me £37.19 a month for 10Mb (L service) to the princely sum of £40.75 a month (so an additional £3.56) for the XXL unshaped, unrestricted, all singing, all dancing 50Mb service. Result!

VM are surely happy, as they're retaining high revenues for high bandwidth services rather than commoditising and getting next to nothing from users for a 'standard' circa 2-5Mb service - I'm happy as I'm paying a little more for significantly more bandwidth and more importantly no damn shaping / restrictions.

I think I also get some sort of wireless-N router as part of the installation fee (£30) - which will go directly on eBay!

Cool all round......

Also just reading the latest VM financial reports, for fun as one does in the evening, and that states that they're currently doing customer pilots of a 200Mb service.... Hmmmmm, that'll be interesting!

Lucky you, they are telling me it would be an extra 24.01/month for me to go from 20MB to 50MB, having an arguement with them as I type ....

Ask for the retentions team. I did and got a loyalty discount from them. Was paying £73 for XL phone, TV and BB with V+ and extra box. Now paying £65 and upgraded the BB to XXL (50Mb). Yay - upgrade on the 16th!

For tech support speak to pimmo2000 simples

It's quite amusing that the 50mb (£18 at the mo according to their website) is seen as fantastic in this country (kudos to VM) my mates in Japan pay £25 for 100Mband have done for a couple of years

I pay £69 a month for braodband 10MB, phone line inc evenings and weekends, and XL TV package which, tbh, is the biggest load of tosh on 200+ channels I've EVER seen. ESPN, showing KIDS' baseball ffs???????????

Tonight I saw one of their ads for TV+Phone+Broadband for less than £15 a month.

Guess what I'm doing tomorrow morning?

Then £20 or so of the saving can go straight on a decent mobile deal for me, and no more phone bill either except for the monthly

Was weird I had the same arguement with them last week.
My bill says my 20mb broadband is £37 a month minus a £12 discount. the website says 50mb bb was £30 so I thought at most I pay an extra fiver.
They say, nope its an extra £20 . Go figure :s They also wouldnt budge on the price.

Installation, of a new cable modem, apparently needs a "50Mb trained Engineer"... How difficult can it be?

Pimmo - what draft-N wifi router will I get, and is there anything stopping me putting it straight on eBay as I don't intend swapping it for my Belkin N+

Having done some Googling and digging around, the router is probably a D-Link one like this:

Seems they stopped doing the Netgear one a while ago...

Netgear WPN824 108Mpbs Wireless Router & USB Adapter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

fingers crossed should just plug in new modem and away we go.

The VM supplied Netgear router (draft N) and free (draft N) USB adaptor will be much better than the (802.11g) ones that you have Tidgy - I'd recommend you swap them round and you then stand a chance of getting 50Mb over wireless. Your chance of getting it on 802.11g (even 'speedboosted') technology is very limited to say the least, unless you're sat on the access-point!

Explains why it's £30 install + £20 activation... read £30 for the router and £20 for the USB dongle...

I'm on 10Mb and pay £25 per month. On their website, even after the 3 month introductory period, 10Mb is £20. This is for new customers only.

I thought companies stopped this bull**** a few years ago when they realised how annoyed existing customers would be when they have to pay more than new customers?! Absolutely shocking customer service
