Default what's the deal with guitar hero backwards compatibility ?

So I find out one of my fave bands, The Raconteurs, has a song pack you can download for Guitar Hero World Tour. I've never bought any Guitar Hero (or Rock Band) game.

My question is, if I by the upcoming Guitar Hero 5, will I be able to buy and play the song pack I mentioned above ? In other words is GH5 compatible with all previous released tracks for earlier versions of GH ? It would be daft not to, but I'm just checking.

Yes, GH5 will allow you to import tracks from GH:WT.

Guitar Hero 5 Brings New Look, New Features, And New Bands - guitar hero 5 - Kotaku

I haven't read anything to say that you'll be able to import any from GH2 and GHIII though Understandable I suppose as they only used guitars, no drums and mics.

thanks Dunk, although I'm sure GH5 could be programmed to see what instruments each legacy track supports ? (and only use the guitar sections, etc..)
