I bought the panny plasma and have never had any burn in issues. I ran my panel in though for 200 hours before using it.
Just don't go daft, playing the same game for 6 hours a day will not do it any good. I often fall asleep on the sofa and wake up to a message saying no signal (sky box switches itself off) and have never had any screen burn.
The most damage is done when it's new and the phosphors are very bright. Run it in and then use the correct settings and it will be fine.
Stay away from LCD's never seen one yet that had a good SD picture.

I've been running my 360 through a Panny plasma since the launch date of the machine (over 3 years ago now). Spent far more hours than is healthy playing on the thing and had no issues whatsoever. The burn in thing is all a bit of a myth these days
Agree with the comments about Plans vs LCD. Plasma tends to produce a much better picture for gaming (because the refresh rates are that much better - especially on the larger screens)

Pany 42" plasma here as well,
just take it easy for the first 200 hours, and follow the initial setup & advice on AV forums,
were at about 800hrs now and it ran 6 hours solid on the 360 yesterday with no issues

A friend of mine has a Full HD Panny Plasma and using it via a PC with GTR2 and having followed all the general rules about running on low settings for a couple of hundred hours and with the unit now being best part of a year old gets image retention (which I guess leads to burn in) The culprit being the HUD and especially the rev counter display. He is forever running screen saver type things that help remove the retention but this often means running the TV for a couple of hours like this.

Lol lots of praise for LCD here then
Got a Pioneer Plasma myself and PS3 runs fine on it. All my LCD owning mates say no diff on gaming but far superior pic for SD & HD video. TV & Film on LCD always looks synthetic to me. Main reason I went for plasma. Also had no screen burn issues.

See the link's below. If you have Nero just down load the .NRG version and save it. Then just double click it and it will fire up Nero and all you have to do is click burn.
I ran mine during day at high contrast and brightness (when I was about) and at night turned them down just in case the DVD player stopped - it never did but I was just being careful.

burned my samsung plasma a few times with some extended gaming sessions (we are talking 12 hours solid fri/sat/sun) on bad company multiplayer, and was worried a bit at the time.
the missus is a teacher and spent most of last summer holidays playing bejewled 2 and burned it as well
but over the few months since i have traded it (bad company) in, the "damage" has all but disappeared now

Just put on a white screen and noticed some retention from my kefling sessions
now left on normal tv for a few hours to wipe it away..
to be fair it had faded from turning one channel to the next.
All crt / plasmas will suffer from burn, if the static image is left on for long periods, ( although your talking months, of the same image !!!)
just look at any cashpoint, especially the green screen varients
New technology limits the amount of retention,

Plasma every time for me. Much better colour reproduction, and they handle fast moving images much better than LCD (especially on the larger screen sizes).
Been using my 42" Panny with the xbox/playstation/wii etc for over 4 years now (xbox 1 and ps2 before the current gen, and still have the ps2/dreamcast hooked up to it), and never even had any image retention, let alone burn in. This is with some extended gaming sessions as well (5+ hours in one sitting on some occaisions).
Don't think burn in is an issue with most modern screens as long as you buy a good one like a Panny or Pioneer and don't go for the cheaper options...

Panasonic 32" LCD for mine - one of the Vieras (from John Lewis with a price match to get the 5 year warranty). Looks terrific and had many hours of leaving it on etc (I know LCDs don't burn like plasmas but it's worth mentioning).
If I'd gone bigger I'd have got a plasma.
