Question Net Send in Vista

Ok this is driving me nuts,

Net send doesn't exist in Vista, replaced by msg.exe fine, but that doesn't exist if you're running Vista Home Premium :s

There are some free alternatives but I can't get any of them to work when sending a msg to a user on an XP machine or to myself infact.

Any ideas on what is a good replacement to use? Surely there is something out there?

Well if you read my 1st post if you have Vista business or Ultimate you can use msg.exe, if not you're SOL it seems IM is the only way I can see. But I want a LAN msg tool not one over the net.

How about Net Send SDK - Need to send messages from your application or a script? Net Send GUI and Winpopup LAN Messenger comes with a command-line tool NetSend.
Says it works with Home Premium

The NetSend.exe and NetSend.dll does NOT send messages themselves, they transfer messages to locally running Winpopup LAN Messenger or Net Send GUI for sending.

But

Net Send GUI, Net Send Command-line Tool (freeware) - FOMINE SOFTWARE

The GUI works! so thx alot Mark

The Winpop Lan Msg one is much nicer and also works only 3 users though.

WinPopup LAN Messenger, Net Send - FOMINE SOFTWARE

Vista editions other than the Home editions include a new command, MSG.EXE. Type MSG /? in a command prompt to get the syntax. Try sending yourself a message: MSG "username" "BOO!". You can add the /TIME switch to make the message auto-close after a number of seconds. I think you'll find that MSG is a good replacement for NET SEND. And it doesn't even require the other system to be running the Messenger service

Use a third party LAN messenger maybe a good choice to replace net send command.
Check out the comparison between net send command line and LAN messenger.
