Sky's the limit I believe, I've seen 1TB drives being used.

This is a 250GB kit,
Sky+ Hard Disk Drive Upgrade Kit - 250GB drive upgrade or replacement for Sky+ from XtendedPlay

Good link here;

cheers for the links mate
It seems reading that, the limit is actually 500GB which is not bad considering the standard one is pitiful at 160GB. Just need the extra space so the other half can fill it up with more pap like desperate housewives

would keep clear of maxtor, they tend to be unreliable and dont deal with heat very well

Take a pic of your planner so you know what you have linked and ready to record etc. I could not get the copy software to work so make sure you know what is in the planner.

I'll be interested in how it goes, our HD box is full of Trisha, Jeremy Kyle, Market Kitchen, The Restaurant, Holby, Casualty, X Fcukter, How to loose 3 stone in 24 hours, My husband is a tree creature from the Planet Zog, Worlds weirdest tumours, all sorts of dross, I barely have room for Megastructures, Mythbusters, Worlds Biggest fixes, Ice Road Truckers, Axmen, Strictly Come Dancing.

It's funny how the boss complains about the cost of the gadgets, but soon can't do without them.

All sorted 500GB drive arrived yesterday at work so I brought it home and set about doing the job. Took apart my sky box first which was easy, 3 screws on the back, case off, 4 screws holding the drive to the motherboard (set on rubber dampers) and four screws holding the drive to the adaptors. No need for a torx one, though I believe the SkyHD does use them.

Then downloaded the copy + software and took apart my PC to attach the sky drive. Copied everthing off it, took about 40 mins.

Then whacked in my new 500GB drive. Word of warning, do not try to format the drive, just leave it as a basic drive, not dynamic. That was my only mistake as the copy + software does not recognise a formatted drive.
Then I just copied everything back.

One word of advice, there is the Anytime planner that Sky bung on whether you like it or not so you will find tons of programmes that appear whether you like it or not. Just deselect them when you copy back.

Then I bunged the drive back in and powered on. All good
Went from 16% free to 85% free

Note: the fan is on constantly now so I suggest you upgrade the fan to a SILENX fan at some point as it is noisy

Yes I know, there is that risk
However it would be the same if I bought her a really big Brabantia bin for the kitchen, she would still fill that up with pap

********** A great upgrade ****************

Just for your info people, forget the silent fans you see online
Ordered one of these for £20
Home and I have gone, in the space of 5 mins, from a noisy fan that was ALWAYS on, to near silent.

A blooming perfect solution
