Default Internet on Nokia N95?

I’ve been offered a Nokia N95 8GB as an upgrade.
Just wondering if anyone’s got experience of how the Internet is displayed on screen.

On a site like Scoobynet for instance, my current Sony Ericsson K800i is hopeless, splitting the pages downwards and across maybe 3 pages. Does the N95 fare any better?

I assume if I want to a phone for this, I really need an iphone, but does N95 come anywhere near? (on Voda if it makes any difference)

Thanks, Carl.

Bear in mind that the N95 can display in landscape - much easier to see

Cheers Dan. The K800i can do that too, albeit on its much smaller screen, but it still makes a mess of a website!

I've browsed scoobynet with no problems on my N95 (original version, not the newer 8gb). Displays exactly the same as it does in a normal web browser, and you can scroll around the page with the "mouse" pointer.

Sadly webby NO it isnt.

have you actually tried posting anything on SN using the N95???

you can't sign in via the N95, when you first use it, you have to sign in via a pc, and as for posting...

forget it. it will allow you to enter a new thread, but then dosent give you the main text box for entering the post.

you just get the formatting options in the wrong orientation.

And where are the browser buttons?

Strange as it may seem, the best smartphone i've used to date, was the treo 600, it had a superb browser, and a keyboard to boot.

shame it was ony VGA resoloution and a lo res screen. that said, it was clear enough for surfing

Is that right! This is from my N95. no problems. I use this for many a happy web browsing on the move. Not sure why you are struggling.

Well, I guess there we have the proof with the above posting!

Any ideas why Mart is struggling? Would different networks make a difference? Mine would be on Vodafone.

No idea. I wouldn't have thought the network would make a difference. Mine's on O2 and works just fine...

The only thing that bugs me is the fact that when posting you can't put a carriage return in, for a new line / paragraph.

Unless someone can enlighten me!

As regards to the browser buttons..... you can use different combinations of the open and close call buttons to flip back screens etc and I find (for web browsing) the options facilities let me do everything I need to do, whilst mobile.

Of course it is no where near as slick as a PC..... but it certainly works!

Thanks - just ordered it – so it better be good!

Anything special it can do that it doesn’t come with?
Any links to downloads/software/things I really should have on this phone?

I've just got an N95 8GB and am very, very impressed with it so far. I've found internet browsing is far easier than on my previous Motorolas and even my PDA. I absolutely love the page preview feature in the browser

It finds and logs into my WLAN in about a second which is way faster than my PDA does. The GPS and SatNav is a very cool feature too. It's just a shame you can't use Memory Map with it.

Mart360 - can you help me out please?

I’ve got the N95 now but my post reply page on Scoobynet looks exactly the same as yours did. I cant for the life of me find the ‘auto fixing of non conforming sites’ option you spoke of – where is it?

Thanks, Carl.

Hi Carl,

happy to help out

Ok this is what you do,

1) Press the live button on the phone, and wait for the voda home page to load

2) When the page loads, scroll down to the tools section, and select "My Account"

3) On the My account page, scroll to the settings section, and select "Web Preferences"

4) You should be on the change settings page. The first section you see is "Display options"

There are two settings

a) Adapt non-mobile friendly sites

b) Do not adapt any sites.

Make sure the "Do not adapt any sites option is "ticked"

I have the image quality set to medium as well (not that it has anything to do with the adaption setting)

5) scroll down to save changes and press the save changes button.

6) Now disconnect from live.

If you know how to end all running applications, then close al applications, & packet / wap connections.

If your not sure on how to do that, just turn the phone off and on again

when you reconnect to live / internet, it should be sorted.

Let me know how you get on

Mart
