And still they're not putting a Blu-ray in the HDDVD box......

Seems a simple solution to me

Yet SONY hold the rights to the blu-ray standard. And guess what SONY makes that competes with the XBOX360?

Sony aren't the only one's with the keys to blu-ray though, but they could hurt Ms bigtime if the refuse to allow BR to be used in the 360 or its replacement - downloadable content is still a generation or 2 away yet I'd say, so MS may be forced into having its games split over multiple discs on its next console, I think Sony would come under too much pressure from its partners to withhold it but it would certainly hurt MS's 360 replacement if it was blu-less.

It works two ways though, SONY can rub MS's face in by letting them plug their product on the rival console, SONY's Blu-ray available on Xbox 360.

But on the other side of the coin, it steals away the product SONY used to justify it's consoles high price.

For the same reasons MS get sued every week, Sony would not and cannot refuse to give blu-ray to MS as it would be deemed illegal, blu-ray is licensed to many manufactures of drives so why would they refuse MS ? on the grounds that they are a competitior and it would effect their console sales, i think they'd soon be in court with that approach.

No. MS said that they would never put games on the format. It was simply an optional extra.

Why would Sony refuse to license BluRay to MS? It's all money to them - SOny would get pure profit on every unit MS sold.

Oh course Sony will license it, as Pete says, money is money and Sony could do with some positive cash flow!

Many years ago when it was Sega vs Nintendo in the console wars, who'd have thought we'd have been playing Sonic on a Nintendo console?!

i honestly would not mind having a game on 2 dvd discs if it was done well.

imagine gears of war 2 came on 2 discs
1 for multiplayer and 1 for the story mode, it would be perfectly acceptable IMO

Of course disc swapping is fine for when DVD runs out of space (and it will eventually) - But, unavoidably, there will some games that simply will not be suitable for a multi-disc set up - For Example it the Reason why Burnout 3 never made it to Gamecube

the only thing i would be a bit pissed over, would be like in the old amiga days when you had to swap discs, "put disc 2 in now" and then 5 mins later "put disc 4 in now" then back to disc 2 and then onto 3 etc etc

if say halfway into a game you had to swap a disc and then use the second disc all the time, it would be fine.

Remember M$ also own EA and COULD if they wanted stop Sony from using the EA brand of games which is a massive market for them in the gaming industry.

reports that the 360 bluray player is going to be released in may LOL

Citing "insiders at Microsoft in the USA," Australia's Smarthouse says Microsoft's Blu-ray add-on is already fully designed, and could be on the market within three months, "subject to internal marketing and sales approvals." Smarthouse also repeated the rumors of a built-in high-def drive for the system, although now that rumored drive plays Blu-ray discs instead of an HD DVDs. Regardless, the tech site seems to think Microsoft will focus on digital movie downloads for those who don't want an add-on.
