Default Any linux experts here

Looking for a flavour that has a GUI as well as the boring dos like interface.

Its for a wintel box with a standalone HDD and a raided set in (raid for data and stand alone for OS boot).

Need to teach myself this OS for work and want to play hence GUI /and std interface.

Cheers

If it really is Redhat at work then Fedora will be the closest as it's put together by the same people. Ubuntu is OK, but overhyped by the zealots who use it. SUSE is pretty good for a beginner, but still pretty powerful - but it's a bit "corporate" - possibly a good thing in your case. Mandriva 2008 seems OK as well. With all Linux distros, it's wireless NIC drivers which cause the problems, so read around to see if a particular distro supports any card you might have. Wired NICs are fine. ATI gfx drivers can be more or less an issue with some distros as well, but nVidia are OK with all.
