MAC or PC .. No trolling I'm actually interested
All depends on isage and requirements
It has long been said that Mac's on the Graphics & Music world are far superior to PC's
Not so sure about the music side these days, as I have a very rock solid incredibly difficult to touch PC based Audio rig
Graphics, I would say still the Mac is better, and thesedays arguable that the Mac is better anyway as it can run XP either dual boot or using Paralells, and from the stories i have been told by users switching to Mac's they actually run Windows better than PC's

Its no surprise they run windows better than PC's is it ? It's a known quantity inside the box! Windows stability on a PC is like a box of chocolates - "you just don't know what you're gonna get"

and ive been Microsoft Certified since 1995
and still prefer Mac's
I can't answer either way as both system has it's pro's and cons. Most would expect me to immediately vote Mac, but I know that there are areas where Macs simply get trounced by PC's.

I agree with Markus to some extent. I personally much prefers PCs (had some nightmare problems with Macs in the past), but now they are basically using a PC architecture under the hood, with Intel chips and the like, the difference is very small.
I really boils down to what you prefer using, as both are pretty much equally capable.

In all fairness the PC is built around M$ which gives it a bad start
I think my feeling towards MAC come more from its fan base than the machine. When people feel the need to protect something and tell you about every new add-on or every new design and need to show you how much better they think it is to "my" pc.. its gets a bit annoying!
The MAC adverts are a perfect example of this... why do they need to insult and try to put the PC down if they really are the better make ?

If the MAC users were cool
then I think MAC would sell more...
Next time your talking about your MAC.. say the sales man told me I can't talk about it.. they only sell to certain (higher class) people !!
Sales will Shoot through the roof !!

I had to say PC because the backwards compatibility with most hardware. But for servers the MAC's take some beating for reliability, stability and usability.
As has been said, there is pros and cons. Both have good and bad points.
Just a matter of personal preference.
I guess you could say its like choosing between an import scooby and a UK one, both look identical but are very different.

I think, in technically proficient hands, both OSs are equally capable and reliable. it's down to preference then.
the question is, what is the better OS when you don't know about everything under the bonnet and consequently don't know much about configuring, optimising and protecting.
I think mac will win out in this scenario.

For what I use it for (music production and media/video), Mac. Simple
However, for gaming, and more general use stuff, the PC ,may just slightly have the edge (gaming for definite)
All IMHO, of course

Hi mate,
Running Logic Studio8, ProTools, Reason 4 and a plethora of plugins (Atmospheres, Stylus, FM7, FM8, Korg Legacy original, Arp2600, CS80, Jupiter 8, Basstation, V-Station, SSL suite, SSL LM1 compressor and a few others that I can't remember!!
)
Don't use Cubase - used to, but its now a door-wedge in my studio
Logic's much faster for my programming style.
All run on a DP G5 with 4 Gig of Ram and my MacBook Pro

As above it depends what you want it for. I like the PC as I can do almost anything I want with it, change cards, add drives etc..
My wife ADORES the Mac as it is so simple. You plug it in and, well, it works and looks very cool.

Very nice, I use Sawstudio thesedays and a few VST instruments, mainly those above tbh
I have two Soudscape Mixtreme cards going to a Behringer DX3216 digital desk with T-dif cards in them, PC was /sort of still is a dual PIII with a 1gb ram, but I do now have a p4 to replace /run along side it now and a Tascam card for that one
If I want to do quick mixes I run Sawstudio on my Dell D610 Laptop and can quite happily play back 48 tracks with eq and odd effects on every channel too

6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other... for a general, low hassle machine the Mac makes a lot of sense - plus as mentioned above you can VMWare Windows on it.
For games, hardware support and price, a PC is marginally ahead.
I run both Windows machines and a Mac - my preferred machine is the Mac as I find it a bit slicker to use

However, the way they have implemented the whole interface is excellent.
I do love being able to run Win2k/Win98/WinXP etc all on Mac in a sperate space. It's a very handy and useful feature - while still having OSX to use.
Having said that, I've just purchased some PC components - quad core etc for a lot less than I'd have to spend on a quad-core Mac.
So those that run Windows on a Mac, do you
a) Dual Boot
b) Use Parallels
c) Use VMWare
If either of the last two, then what is the difference, or is it a bit like using either vmware or virtual pc on a PC ?

I have been a mac fan for donkeys years, ever since my dad had one of the first classics (in fact he had the ones before that
), but the classic was the first one I really got to use.
have been through all the variations on windows, bbc computers, 0s2 warp (god
). Run an IT consultancy business that deals and specialises in cross platform solutions, so as you can imagine we deal with the whole gamut of operating systems. So not exactly a preference work wise and at home I have huuuuge imac, powerbook, HP laptop running vista, own build PC. Oddly enough with all that kit I still use the imac all the time and when I need PC, I simply switch using VMware into XP.
The mac does everything I need and more, though I am acutely aware that there are some things the windows environment wins out in. Terminal services is one of them and various dedicated networking tools.
If I had to make a choice, then it would be the mac.

B and C are essentially the same, and as you suspect, it's the same as running VPC or VMWare.
I use Boot Camp with XP when I want to use the full power of the machine, for example, when gaming. I use Parallels/VMWare when I need to quickly access something that is PC only (I've got my VM's setup to use the Boot Camp partition as the "drive" for the VM, so the data and apps from when I dual boot are also there when running in VM mode), or to run a PC Server temporarily for testing purposes.
Why do I use PDM and Fusion? Main reason is that Fusion supports Netware and PDM does not. I've used PDM since the first beta, so I keep a copy around. I've also been too lazy to migrate my other PDM vm's over to Fusion, but I might do that at some point. These days if I'm running XP in VM mode, it'll be via Fusion.
I tend to use them on my Main PC - however, I sometimes switch to using the Macbook if I'm away etc. It was just easier to move my e-mail/PDA between to Windows machines than windows/mac.
If the iPhone will/can replace my PDA - I may switch to using the Macbook for work and the PC for home stuff - so can move to Mac only.
