At bl**dy last
managed to get the xbox to talk to the pc
I used the latest variant of zune ironically
and i found the cause of the problem
my firewall

streamed a movie no probs.. in vanilla xp (a standard mpeg)
not tried audio yet..
now for the easy questions.
If i change the routers ssis? name to say hub101, then all devices should look for that hub101 name to connect, and i can remove any of the old names ive called my previous set ups
I now know how there shown under the xbox- by the name of the "media" entity folders you want to call your songs, (zune - wmp -etc) this i think was what half the problem was, so ive called each media entity by what programme its from. ie one called zune one called wmp
now the million dollar question.
how do i get my firewall working so it will allow the xbox to see the pc.
its Comodo firewall pro btw
my experience of port forwarding is sh*t, and the highly regarded "pf" site doesn't work either, (now that may be because it doesn't like firefox as a browser) it says enter data into the boxes, but does nothing
any help would be really appreciated

One last time . . .
You CANNOT natively play Divx files through the Media Centre interface on the 360;
You CAN play Divx through the Media Centre interface on the 360 using Transcode360 or similar;
You CAN natively play Divx through the dashboard (Media blade) on the 360 via Windows Media Players library.
Divx/Xvid files should have a .avi file extension.

When you say media centre, are you referring to WMCE the OS media centre/ or windows media player?, the standard XP player.
The file I had was allready an avi, and played fine under WMCE OS, from the xbox end and will play fine from the media blade (non wmce)
I wasn't aware that avi files were divx, i thought divx files ended with the extension .divx, so if your right, all .avi files are allready divx.
can you tell me why there not full screen, but fit in a smaller widescreen window with a letterbox allround, or is it just the d/l i have?
I took the .avi file, and ran it through divx doctor, and it made a divx file, but wmce wouldnt see it, or the media blade.
WMP however will play the .divx .mpeg & .avi versions of the same file.
now thats assuming that they actually have been encoded using these formats, (how do i tell)?
Zune wont find any vid files, so thats going to go.
And i still need to sort my sodding firewall

AVI just stands for Audio Video Interleave and can encompass many types of compression, Mpeg4 being just one.I took the .avi file, and ran it through divx doctor, and it made a divx file, but wmce wouldnt see it, or the media blade.

See here for supported formats through Zune.
