Oracle Database 10g on Laptop
Guys,
I'm looking to do my OCP certification and am trying to figure out what kind of spec laptop I would need to be able to run an Oracle Database 10g/11 and any other tools that I will need.
Needs to be on a laptop so it's possible for me to take the thing home / work on train.
I'm limited to either Dell or HP - does anybody on here do the above and what kind of spec are you running?
Cheers
Andy

I have run Oracle 10g on a p4 1.7ghz with 512mb of ram, and although it was very slow, it did run. Personally, I'd be looking for dual core with 2gb ram, and it should run fine...

Yep all good thanks mate!
Wow big difference between skiing and a baba thats for sure!
Started a permie job 3 months ago (after 14 years of self-employment) which is abit of a shock! Got a company motor now so the volvo I had after the '1' is gone so is my classic TR6.
How long you been doing the drag down to London for now mate? With your new found oracle skills looking to move jobs? Hey just did a quick search, sql server contracts in MK=77, Oracle=24, I know where I would be (and have been) going DB wise!

Yep, as said, memory, you can adjust what it grabs when you install it though, you don't really need it to be that fast for learning purposes though, however you dont want it to nail the performance the rest of the time so set the service to manual, many a time I have put up with slow pc's and then remembered the 2 Oracle instances running in the background.
Get yourself some decent self tests and do the wax on/wax off bit, learn them inside out, use the crib sheets and make sure you try every single feature so you understand it fully, make little rhymes to remember the combinations of memory areas and stuff. Download podcasts on 10G and listen to them in the car.
Buy a good 10G book, and read it cover to cover, in fact get an aftermarket book and also the Oracle manuals, make sure you find out whether the test is on R1 or R2 as there are differences that can lose you marks.
Kind of agree on the SQL Server vs Oracle, I am still fairly new to SQL Server but am quite impressed and like the fact that it licenses per cpu, not per core.
PM Me if you need any further tips.
J4CKO, (OCP 8i, 9i and 10G, 11G when they release it !)
