The kids (ahem) would like a Xbox 360 which would be the best to have

 

what do you want to do ?

Online ? or just play offline ?

 

If you are planning on filling it with a lot of music, videos and downloadable content then consider getting the Elite as the bundled 120gig harddrive is a good buy.

If the standard 20gig hd is enough then get the premium which i think is now being shipped with the hdmi socket as standard (it should be stated on the box if it contains it).

I personally wouldnt opt for the core console as some of my game saves are over 64meg and would fill a memory card on 1 game alone.

 

one that doesn't break would be a good start!

 

The Halo 3 console is currently looking like the best bet as some are reported to have the 65nm (Falcon) chip

I'd probably say the Elite as best value for money.

 

I got a bargin of an elite in Gatwick HMV

£253 for Elite + Bioshock and Blue Dragon

 

I would wait until you can absolutley be sure you can get a 65nm chip console. It just isn't worth the almost 50/50 chance you will get one that will break repeatedly otherwise.

 

Comet are doing an offer (in the paper sat.) for xbox elite + halo 3 + forza 2 + another controller (albeit a white one!) for £369 which seems pretty good to me. The cheapest I have seen the elite is in costco for £284 inc. vat. If any of you shop at costco you know they have an unrivalled returns policy and a 3 year warranty as standard.

 

I'm more concerned by the OS than the hardware, my 360 kept freezing on the dashboard last night - just cant seem to handle notifications, they're what cause most of my problems...

 

Mine seems to lock up sometimes especially on the left menu thingy. The Fall update will soon be here and hopefull will bring lots of goodies and improvements

 

I think it just takes a while computing all your points
