There is a UK Special event on the 18th, with the invitation stating "Mum is no longer the word", which you could infer means that things could be spoken about and thus speak = phone. Hopefully it is the release of the UK iPhone. Should be interesting to see what the data plan is like.
I was said that Apple wanted to get details about the Euro relese of the phone by then end of this month, so this could see the UK launch, and the Euro launch would be at the Paris Expo later this month.

Sooner the better, now anyone can use it more will be purchased from the US. I turned down the offer of having one picked up today, it's not all that without a data plan, well actually it is all that, but it's more with, if you know what I mean.
SMS messaging is beautifully handled by the way, nice conversation based interface.

There are a couple of local places selling iPhones, think they was $700 candian for them, which is probably what the official price point will be, but without a decent data plan, well, an unlimited one, it's not worth it to me, and it's probably obvious that I rather do want one.
From what I recall isn't the SMS interface very similar looking to iChat?

The rest of the world, will get data plans that are fair and work well for the user.
As for the UK, it will be data raping
you,ll prolly get £1 per Mb when it reaches a 100MB limit
before then its £5 per mb or similar

I know Apple does not seem to care about markets other than the US, but I really can't see them having a deal which will cruficy the user on the data plan side of the phone. As I've said before, I'm holding off getting one as I'd be screwed by my networks data plan, and I would use the phone mainly for browsing when out and about (always handy to be able to look up deals and other things when out shopping and there isn't a computer to hand).

Well it's an Apple product for a start, and that appeals to us Mac geeks
As for doing it better than an N95, I could not really say. Having had a quick look at the N95 website my comments would be that the iPhone does not have a pop-out keypad for phone number/text/playback controls. It has a few buttons on the unit, but the majority of control is done via the touch screen.
The iPhone does not have all the features that the N95 does, for example GPS. There is a video on this page that compares the N95 to the iPhone.

Content is king. There are plenty of pages and being written for the iPhone already. The fact that it works with iTunes to sync pretty much everything I need is a huge selling point. Oh and it's so easy to use I'd get one for my mother.
