Hello All,

My Mac may have developed a wierd quirk.

Will play CDs, but not DVDs. I recollect there being a firmware update from Apple a few months back, and I don't think I've used the drive since.

Any thoughts?

CDs play fine.

DVDs will not even spin up.

There was a superdrive fix, which I think Apple pulled and has not released as it bricked a fair few drives. I think the drives would not play any media at all, so it might not be the cause of this issue.

Does the dvd display on the desktop at all? If you open up DVD Player and try to play the DVD are any errors displayed, if so, what are they?

What region are the DVD's you have tried playing? What region is the machine set to? Could be that it's some region encoding thing, in that it's set to X and disk is Y and it won't play it. It should throw up a message when you try and play the dvd through the player about this though.

Sorry Markus - been rather snowed under today. First time I've turned the Mac on

It slowly mounted the DVD last night. Set to Region2.

Will keep an eye on it, but seems ok at the moment
