Just had a new motherboard in the PC as the last one fried itself.

Now I'm the number 1 IT illiterate PC plonker so answers in English would be appreciated.

Every so often when I reply to a thread or write an e-mail the PC does a shutdown and restart - anybody got any ideas or solutions because the Madman bit is really starting to come out in me now.

Sounds most like an overheat prob!

Where abouts have you got your PC stored (the main case that is)? What sort of place - cupboard, floor, desk etc. and what processor are you running (Intel / AMD - speed MHz ?).

Have you got Anti-Virus by the way - doesn't sound like one, but better safe than sorry.

Madman,
while you are checking the temps. check the voltages from the psu are about right. If you can, run a temp/voltage monitor while in windows and keep an eye (or 2) on it.

If the old motherboard fried then I take it you are still using the old case and psu?

My PC keeps doing this because I have a virus (clearing it out as we speak) so run a virus scan with an up to date virus scanner such as Norton.
