Default Getting online with XBox 360

Guys

Probably covered before but any help with this really appreciated.

My XBox 360 arrived today - going to set it up to get on-line tomorrow.

I have wired/modem broadband connection at home. Tomorrow I am buying a Netgear or similar wireless router, so I will then be wireless.

Can anyone tell me what I need to get the XBox online ?
Will I need any special cables ? And quick step by step instructions would be really good (in laymans terms !)

Cheers

If you want to connect via Wifi then you'l probably need to buy the wireless adaptor for the 360. cost about £50. connecting is then a case of entering the network info.

If you want to connect to the router via a network cable then it's a case of one of suitable length. (you get one with the 360)

Its going to be the latter I guess - though the distance from the router to the Xbox will be about 15metres so I guess I will need to get a longer one - can one be picked up from PC world or suchlike ?

Quick question - I am going to connect my XBox to my PC/Modem direct, just until I get a router set up & running.

Do I need a straight through or crossover ethernet cable ?

When I change to a router will I need to change from a straight through to a crossover, or visa versa ? Just so I know to buy 2 cables now if needed or maybe 1 will do either installation.

Its a wanadoo modem btw.

Cheers

If you're doing that I believe you will need both types. somebody should confirm but I'm pretty sure that's the case.
