Default phpBB vs SMF for an utter idiot.

I've obviously used a phpBB forum as a user (who hasn't?!); but not aware that I've used an SMF forum.

Could someone who knows about these things tell me which is the best for a casual user to admin? What the main differences are and the like? Which is the easiest to fit into the theme of my website?

From what I've seen, SMF 'naturally' looks nicer and more professional - but I don't want to jump into something way over my head!

(You'll all be glad when I've 'finished' this website I'm sure!!)

Thanks! (again!)

Simple Machines Forum is written in PHP isn't it?

From what I remember SMF is very easy to setup, all sort of standard. mySql is also used I think ? Its open source too I think

So to sum up, I think SMF is easier, it still uses PHP as a base and its free

Yip, the choice of forum scripts I have from my space provider (zendurl.com) are phpBB and SMF.

I found phpBB *reasonably* easy to do - but if SMF is easier then that'll be the choice..

Cheers!

I'd probably advise using PHPBB as the (and I'm only basing this on my little experience) adaptablity is much better... email Webmaster and ask him

if it's choice between SMF and phpBB then I'd go with phpBB. What you'd want to do, if possible, is setup a test install of both (I'd suggest having a phpBB2 AND phpBB3 RC1 install, so you can see what will be coming shortly from phpBB) and have a quick play, see which one suits you and your site.
