Virgin media email problem
Hi
My dad was with ntl which has now changed over to virgin media.
His email is playing up, in a sense that it wont let him send emails.
He can receive emails, and he can surf the web.
I have been through to the virgin "help" desk, who have had me uninstall and reinstall the email account 3 times, double checked the passwords and the outgoing and incoming server details and everything is as it should be.
The last thing they said to me was that outlook express must be corrupt.
So I installed outlook, set it as default email programme and that doesnt work either.
It can receive and browse the web, but wont send. Anyone got any ideas before I put a hammer through the poxy thing?
thanks
Fitz

In Outlook, make sure that you have 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' checked, and use the same username and pw. Check the 'SPA' box as well.
These settings should be in the Outgoing Server tab in E-mail settings - at least they are in Outlook.
If that doesn't work, or you've done it already, then I don't know

It baffles me how it can be an outlook express programme error that is stopping him sending emails but he can receive.
Thanks for the ideas, but unfortunatley have tried all of these.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been having problems with mail (Virgin). I use outlook as mail client.
With no changes to the client at all, connecting to the smtp server and pop3 server takes ages, and often fails.
Once connection has been established with the mail server, bringing the mail down takes ages also.
I think it may be something to do with mail sweeper anti virus on the server side.
Again Pimmo may have an idea if he is around.
