Default What Laptop for £400

I have £400 to spend on a laptop, don't really want to spend anymore than this...

i went into tesco today and saw this.. Gateway MT6223B Laptop - Tesco.Direct

@ £399.97

seems like a nice bit of kit, but if i am honest i am not overly trick on laptops... any advise or suggestions would be great!!

ta chris.

Its not a bad bit of kit, but I'd suggest getting some more memory for it. It has 1GB-256MB for the graphics card leaves you 744MB for the OS and I would imagine Vista could do with a bit more to run smoothly.

Cheers

Matt

check out these auctions:

eBay Seller: thechef01: Laptops, Drives Storage items on eBay.co.uk

He's basically Dell's outlet for canceled orders.

Often find them 20%+ under retail

There is a review of the Gateway MT6825B in this months What Laptop. They are doing a test on laptops under £500.

Gateway aftersales support is famed for being one of the worst out there, (and the machine reliability sometimes isn't great either). I personally wouldn't touch them with a very long bargepole.

Can't go wrong with a Dell. We've bought loads of them at work over the last few years, and never had any problems at all. In fact I'm typing this on a Dell laptop

You're right, but just for info, I'm running Vista Home premium on an Aspire £400 jobbie, with 512MB. Ideally I'd increase the RAM (but I have a 2GB PC as well), but I run Photoshop and it's surprisingly smooth.

Vista Business needs 1GB minumum IIRC

Someone beat me to it with the offer too, but thanks Nick

Not for profit, just for workmates who've been on the lookout since I snagged the £299 deal a couple of weeks back.
