Question Any PC Build experts? - PSU help

My Dell Dimension 4600 PSU has packed in (no life when pressing start button). I've found one on Ebay but am wondering if there's a replacement I can use?

The connectors on the Dell PSU are..

P1 - 20pin ATX Motherboard Power
P2 - 4pin Pentium 4 Motherboard Power
P3 - 4pin Standard Molex
P4 - 5/6pin DELL SATA - Requires an extension
P5 - 4pin Standard Molex
P6 - 4pin Standard Molex
P7 - 4pin Floppy
P8 - 4pin Standard Molex
P9 - 4pin Standard Molex

There's a 'value' model on Ebuyer with the following..

20+4Pin Power Connector
PCI-Express Power Connector
6x Molex
1x SATA
ATX12V P4 Connector

Will this replacement be okay?

Dell's often use non-standard fitting inside their machines so its not always a case of buying a replacement psu.

I would recommend you buy a decent PSU, the value stuff is not up to the job and tends to die very quickly. I recommend you look for something like the Taggen 480W PSU, highly rated and I have 3 of em myself.

Will have all the connections you need for your Dell however I recommend you take a look at your actual PSU and then see if it looks anything like the ones you see on the tinterweb.

Another advantage to buying a 'quality PSU' is that they are often much quieter than a 'value PSU'

I have just replaced my standard 400W CWT PSU that came with the case I bought for a Corsair HX 520W £67 ebuyer.com - Cases PSUs Barebones » Power Supplies » Other Manufacturers » Product details - now it doesn't sound like someone has left the vacuum cleaner running in the room - In fact sometimes I walk in and think the thing has turned itself off when the screen cuts it's power & goes black

Word of warning though - I bought this PSU for my other machine running an ABIT AN7 motherboard and it would not run properly - I thought the PSU was faulty! - having researched it a bit it seems a few people have had problems with older motherboards and new ATX 2.2 PSUs... Don't know why, they should be backward compatible...

A mate's 'value' psu died & it took the motherboard with it.
He has got himself another value psu that sounds like a B747 taking off and a cheap mobo.
Don't be as myopic as him
