Went into CURRYS yesterday to buy my 42" LG Tv and I asked about the PS3 launch and how long the queue was to buy one.
Answer? 14 in stock on Friday - 12 Left Saturday at 10am - "Make us an offer of £350 and you can have one Sir, we will even give you a free 'Casino Royale' Blu-Ray DVD"
Not sure if he was joking but he seemed deadly serious!!
Sony have priced it wrong ............. it will be £299 within a month.
A mates mate bought 2 - hoping to sell 1 on E-Bay at a massive profit to pay - ooooops, burnt finger time!

Just got back in from Town .... went into GAME (a habit) - plenty of PS3's available. Overheard someone asking about them and the salesman just shrugged his shoulders, "No Interest - Worst Launch They Had Seen Ever"
What will SONY do? To drop the price smacks of desperation and people will resist even then ..............
....... a question for SN - why did you NOT buy one?
For me, it was the £400+ price tag + the fact that my PS2 still satisfies + I do not necessarily want to jump in the Blu-Ray bed yet.
You?

I have the 360 & i feel that nearly £500 with a few titles & the right cables its not worth it.
I will wait till its down to £300 with the above & the way its going that woll be very shortly

Price & the sketchy PS2 games compatibility has put me off, gonna try to get myself a HK/USA one in the next few weeks now the prices will start to settle/drop. I'm definitely not going to be buying a crippled UK one.

Got a 360 and I hardly have the time to play on that atm!
I would buy a PS3 when its probably down to under £200 and not before, don't care if thats 1 years from now or what... £400+ is too much for a console that doesnt have any decent titles and does no more than what a 360 can do (apart from Blu-Ray).
A friend of my brothers has 2 he was going to sell on ebay, think he's just lost a bit of money!

do you think its because sony has limited the backward compatability with old ps2 games, that has slowed the sales?
was it the jap or usa consoles that works with all?

USA and Japs are compatible with PS2 games in the main ,however, they decided to remove the emotion engine chip from the euro version, relying on software emulation.future Jap and american version will have the EE chip removed too.
"Regarding the PAL version of the PS3 to be launched in Europe and Australia, Sony released a list of compatible games on the 20th of March, with ratings saying whether a game had noticeable issues, minor issues or no known issues. Games not on the list are not compatible with the Playstation 3 at that time. The list shows that 1,782 PlayStation 2 (PS2) games will be playable on the PAL PS3 at launch (though some have minor to major issues),accounting for about 72% of all PS2 games released in Europe. From IGN's top 25 PS2 games list, 9 games are reported to have no known compatibility issues with the PS3, 4 games have minor compatibility issues, 4 more have major issues and 8 games aren't supported at all."

Have to admit that even at the cheaper hypothetical price, I still wouldn't as I'm just not convinced about the machine as a whole. I use XBox Live, and the Sony version just doesn't seem to "cut the mustard"......
