Macbook-WindowsXP-Internet connection problem
I hope that the AppleMac fans can offer some advice on this.
Goes as follows .....
Bought Macbook secondhand-worked a treat, opened up and it found the BTHomeHub (ours works OK ) G4 iMac connected by ethernet wire..Clicked homehub on dropdown menu and away I went.
Loaded Bootcamp and Windows XP, no problems all worked, found internet connection immediately ..Great.
Crashed hard drive on Mac side, newone installed by Apple and they reloaded OSX. Noticed that macbook now finds Homehub by itself ( OK ) so a slightly different OSX to the original perhaps. Loaded Bootcamp and XP again, no problems BUT I cannot get the Windows side to make an internet connection.
The networks page tells me that I have .....
1394 Connection
Connected
1394 netadapter
No matter what wizards I run I cannot get a connection.. so...
do I need to install the homehub software on the windows side , which I didn't need to before or is there something else that I should be doing ?
Hope this makes sense and thanks
Brian

Thanks Dan.
Downloaded latest OSX 10.4.9 and all other updates from Apple before loading Bootcamp/XP.
Have not downloaded anything else. Before the crash the macbook found windows IE connection easily so I was expecting it to do the same this time round.
So is there something on the BT site that i need to find or do I use the BTconnection software that came with the hub and is installed on the G4 ?
Cheers

Have you installed the drivers from the CD created when you installed Boot Camp? More specifically, what version of Boot Camp do you have? I'm guessing as you had a new hard drive it's the latest version?
How should the Macbook connect to the Homehub, wireless or wired? I'm guessing wireless and thus you'll need to setup the wireless network connection in XP.
When I go into Start -> Network Connections I see four things (this is on a 17" Core Duo iMac):
LAN or High-Speed Internet
1394 Connection - Connected - 1394 Net Adapter
Wireless Network Connection - Disabled (I've disabled this myself) - Broadcom 802.1.1 Multiband Network Adapter
Local Area Connection - Connected - Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Personal Area Network
Bluetooth Network Connection - Disabled - Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
The 1394 item is the connection for Boot Camp, the LAC one is there because I also use Parallels Desktop, which installs it's own driver.
The wireless network connection is for my airport connection, which I currently have disabled. If I enable it then I can double click on it and select "View Wireless Networks" at which point I can select my wireless network and connect to it.
So, what to do? Well, if the Boot Camp Drivers are installed, and the macbook usually connects wirelessly then I'd connected it wired to the hub, simply take the cable from the G4 and stick it into the macbook. We know the G4 connects ok, well, from OS X at least, so that would suggest the cable and connection are valid. Then see if the macbook can connect, if it can then we know the wired connection is working, so it's probably the wireless side of things that isn't, so we'd need to get that working.

Thanks for all the help.
Finally got things sorted by going back to square one and starting again.
Wiped out XP and re-partitioned, after 3rd attempt , XP loaded OK and the Mac drivers did much more..all connections made so I can now use windows ( I now know why we use apple !!!! ) for a couple of little jobs.
Seems like apple still have some development work to do if apple users are to access windows easily.
Cheers

Very true. BC is still beta and thus there will be problems with it. Hopefully the final version should be much better and will probably support Vista as well.
I use a combination of Parallels and BootCamp, so have Paralles using my Bootcamp partition as it's virtual drive so I've the best of both worlds.
