Default SSL / HTTPS broken

Hi,

Just had a call from a relative who's HTTPS / SSL is broken on their computer. I remote accessed in and had a play and it's really wierd. I can't see how it has happened, but it's either a result of some nasty malware or it's a corruption.

Normal internet access over http is fine, but any access to https:// sites fails with page not found.

This happens in both IE7 (latest patched version) and Firefox (V2) so it isn't IE specific.

Anyone any suggestions beyond rebuilding the windows distro?

I've not see this before and google has let me down so far.

Ta

Alex

What happens if you "telnet secure.server 443", does it connect? Any odd proxy settings?

Hmm, didn't think of that, will try it ta. No proxy settings, and those would be in IE or Firefox, not both.

Will also try turning off XP firewall but I can't believe it's that as XP firewall wouldn't block port 443.

I think it's something nasty on the PC or a corruption, just don't know where to look..
