You'll get as many different answers as you get replies

Personally I hated Gears of War (far too shallow), and although Call of Duty 3 was ok, I thought Call of Duty 2 was a better game.

Test drive unlimited rocks. One of only two games on the 360 that I've completely finished (Oblivion was the other).

Best for pick up play & "no online cheating" - Burnout.

Game I've spent more time on than other other - GRAW

Game that got me hooked on Live - PGR3

my best games of that genre so far

FEAR (multiplayer is awesome)
GRAW
COD3 (or 2)

Currently playing Gears of War - not sure whether I'm impressed by it or not....seems very linear

Played far cry for 20 minutes tonight and put it back in the box where it will stay. Fortunately it was a freebie from Ubi.

However I just finished playing Prey earlier this week, and it's really quite good. Weapons and general gun-play is a little sterile and repetitive, but its worth playing for the atmosphere, the clever portal tech and the gravity shifting. Not tried online yet.

Cheers guys.

I knew the answers would vary a bit, so that doesn't bother me.

Is there any of the above games which fully use the graphics available to the 360? That was one of the reasons i tried Lost Planet...

I suspect that Gears of War gets the closest to that at the moment. Just a shame the gameplay doesn't live up to the visuals..

Graphics wide Id saw gear of war, call of duty 3 is also visually very good, details such as individual blades of grass blowing in the wind, and smoke effects etc. Both are also very good games, prefer gow on line though, also good playing gow co-op.
Also for racing PGR3 very good and for a launch title looks amazing and can be picked up cheap now. Also perfect dark may be worth a look, not graphcally the best but the on line play is still probably the better than anything else which has since been released, shop around and you can get this for about a tenner now.

Got PGR and got bored of it fairly quickly, although it is a good game. I'm just too GT at heart.

Not currently got it hooked up to online, though once i move house, that'll hopefully change.

Maybe see if i can pick up Gear of War cheap then, thanks.

Forget GOW, go for Call of Duty 2 or 3. Both are awesome games, particularly 3 in the on-line area.

Agreed, if you are not hooked up online, then Call of Duty 2 /3 are much better single player experiences than Gears of War.

Edd, give Far cry a bit more time! I just got it for the humble Xbox and my inital reaction was like yours i.e. Boring- seen it all before and this is just to slow! Amazing graphics for the 1st Xbox though!!

However, it's a slow starter to ease you into the game. When you start launching hit and run raids on the enemy compounds and the difficulty ramps up, it's great fun! You have to think tactically rather than just run and gun, which I like too!

TDU for me, not a big games player these days but I do like a blast on that.

The kids are loving Lego Star Wars, looks superb, and it's quite wholesome for them.

That would be why it has a 16+ rating .....

I would agree with everyone else that any from GOW, COD 2/3, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon are all excellent games and you shouldn't be disappointed with any of them.
