Question Digital tv stick for laptop

I'm thinking of getting a digital tv stick for my laptop.I've looked at Maplins online and they seem quite reasonably priced.

A few quick questions though.

I assume you dont have to be online to receive a signal and that the laptop would show pictures the way a normal tv would?

Would I need a 'tv card' to enable any picture to be shown?

How do I find out if I have a tv card if one is needed?

Any thoughts on this?:
DVB-T USB Digital TV Stick

I'm not too technically minded with computers as my questions show, so go easy on the jargon

Hello

You plug it in, load the software, and (if you are in a freeview area) you can watch TV on your laptop.

I have one (not that one, a Hauppage) and it does what it says.

I assume it's covered under my household tv licence. Not free, but no extra?

So I don't have to bother with tv cards etc, just plug in and go?

I bought that one a couple of weeks ago (same price). I can't pick up any channels with the supplied ariel, so I'm going to get a bigger one installed in the loft. Can't see it being much use on a laptop unless you are in a *very* good reception area or in Europe.

I tried using one with the supplied aerial when I was in Bolton and had direct line-of-sight to the WInter Hill transmitter about 6 miles away. It picked up a few stations but only at half signal strength.

You really need an external full size aerial to make it work.
