No issues with broadband, currently 10Meg and has been faultless for the past couple of years.
But how do I get TV Drive without the 75 quid fee?
Is there some keyword I can use as they keep refusing to do it for nothing?

I work for Telewest technical support so hit me up if you have any questions or issues with your connection.

Will make a note: from my painful experiences the help line has never helped! Just tells me to turn things on and off, and says it doesn't support Macs or any of the sofware I run on it...

You must have called the wrong number as we do support MACs!
Only things we dont support are things we dont supply!
We supply yourt internet connection so unless your pc is broke, we are there to get you online.
We Dont support third party routers, but would you ask Ford for a free service on your Scooby ?

I have been a customer of Telewest for the past 4 or 5 years. I currently pay for a 10mb connection, although I have never managed to prove that I can obtain such download speeds.
Is there a url that you can provide me with that engineers may use to check download speeds with a semi-large file. When Telewest used to host games servers all the maps and stuff used to be hosted. Engineers would use these large maps to check download speeds.
My biggest problem, consistently with Telewest as with all customers is average time in queue on the technical support line. Telewest are obviously aware of these terrible wait times. Abandoned calls must be 10 times higher than calls that are actually offered and answered by advisors / agents. I would not take any comments from Telewest about customer service seriously until I can get through to an agent in less than 20 minutes. Telewest is ok'ish when it is working. When it is not you have had it.

If you get hold of one of the newsgroup readers on a trial and point at TW servers, you'll get a good reading of bandwidth.
Configure multiple connections and hit a number of groups for header updates and you'll see what it can do.
I get a full 10 (1.17Mb/sec) but the web speed tests barely show over 7

Due to the joining of Telewest and NTL a lot of Advisors thought their jobs were at risk and jumped ship.
At the moment there is a huge employment drive to get call waiting times to 30 seconds.
The waiting times for us now are averaging 4 minutes. Call after 9pm or before 3pm and your good for a few second wait.
The only issue is the Indian call centers, they do annoy a lot of customers who then take it out on me
As for testing download speeds we now use gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk d/l two files of a large size and add the speeds together
2mb your looking at 200kb
4mb 400kb
10mb at least 1mb per second !
Hope this helps

Pimmo,
I will try the gamefiles d/l tonight when I get home. As a matter of interest why would I need two download sessions would I not get a indicative speed from just one large file download.
Also are you based at Knowsley or Liverpool. I currently employ 2 ex Telewest employees. One a CSM and one Tester.

Two files gives you more of a chance of max download speed, for example if loads of people are using one, or if for some reason the server is holding back.
Your connection will split equally between the two and thus give you a better speed reading

Basically unlike ADSL cable has the possibliy of stupid speeds, well above 20mb, the issue is the UBRs. In the new year there are starting to upgrade them so at a guess I'd say late next year
