Default Buying a Laptop, Help!!!!!!

Hi Guys,

I'm after a new laptop (want a brand new one, not a refurb) has any one got any suggestions where to get one from, not really got too many demands from it, I want it to be WiFi enabled and have a dvd drive, apart from that I'm not really bothered as long as it's got half decent specs.

Looking to spend 400-500 ish

Cheers

Steve

Perhaps an Acer.

Possibly a Toshiba or HP models - better than Acer IMO but check specs.

You need

Windows XP (Probably Home)
512mb RAM (Min)
40gb HDD (Min)
DVD/CDRW Combo drive.

You're probably looking at a celeron Centrino based on or AMD for that price

I think I want something that runs XP Pro (for IIS and mysql/php)
I want something that will run Vista (idealy free upgrade ala Dell) - 2gb RAM?
I want something cheap. Don't we all....

Any suggestions?

Don't need to burn anything, don't need GBs of storage, don't really need to play games. Its main use will be testing websites and demoing them locally.

Should I care about C2D intels or will AMDs do just fine.

Thanks in advance from a Mac user who isn't switching the other way...

My GF has just received an Acer - shes a teacher, the screen is widescreen but we can't seem to get the resolution set so it looks 'normal' it's either too stretched or too shrunk- lol - not that impressed with it although only had a quick look...

Have you had a look at Rock Direct?

Just bought a Rock(Pegasus 665) and its Ace not sure about the cheaper spec ones though, but you do get a three year warranty and a forum to chat to other Rock owners .

Highly recommended

Another recommendation for ACER. There are three models on sale at Tesco at the momment so you can have a look at one first if you wanted.

RichB- I use 1280*800 and it looks really good.
