Default any homebrew gurus?

Ive just got myself a v1.5 psp, now what do i do to get homebrew games working?

Ive looked at countless forums on psp's but even the noob guides dont seem straightforward. Ive managed to fathom i need a program to run the homebrew games, ive downloaded 'devhook 0.44' and tried to put it onto my psp with no joy, it comes up on my memory stick as a corrupted file

I really need somebody to explain in v simple terms what to do, i feel like throwing the sodding thing

Thanks in advance

Ive no idea how to do it, but be very carefull where you get these files from as you can brick your PSP very easily

Brick-: Object of morter, also aliases PSP piracy gone wrong thus turning your PSP into a brick or doorstop.

One of the best sites I have found PSP Hacks · Hacks, Cracks, Mods, Homebrew, Utilities · Hack Sony Play Station Portable Great source of information and apps.

Best loader by a mile is Devhook Shell Concept, loads everything I have thrown at it, and is very user friendly.

Download and follow the instructions on HEREworks a treat on mine..

There's a devhook 0.46 ultimate installer around that worked a treat for me and few others.

scoobyverysoon- i need 'step by step', (simple non-technical language i can understand), instructions of how to play homebrew and 'free' ;-] games on the psp. Ive gotten as far as downloading a version of devhook thats in a zipped folder, so instructions from here would be great.

Mogsi- thanks for the links, ive read some of the guides on psphacks, still none the wiser.

Ive tried to download the shell concept you suggest, i get directed to 'rapidshare' which asks for money first, i opt for the free option which makes me wait for 70 seconds, it then asks for a security key as im im not a premium user, which doesnt work (of course), saying the download session is invalid, then suggests paying for using the site to get my download which puts me back to sq1.

Am i just 'being ****'? Ive started on the wine, so will have another go tomorrow or the psp will be smashed or burnt.

Keep the advice coming please guys!

Download works fine on mine, I chose the: Download Devhook_4_2.71r3.exe from Cogent-network: dl21cg.rapidshare.de (9000 of 10000 MBit/s in use)

and make sure you type the code in the correct case....

Just tried again mate, same devhook version, cogent network get this after entering code in correct case:

Download-session invalid. Please click here.

Possible reasons:

Download-session expired. Direct-links last a few minutes for free users and a few days for premium-users.
You requested this download-session from a different IP than yours. If you use AOL, try a different browser.
If nothing helps, getting a premium-account will override the IP-check, which means it will solve this problem.

the all in one installer would be your best bet as it does it all for you - did you format your memory card before you tried having a go?

Ive got the all in one as a zip but its 38mb - doubt it will e-mail (or will it?) PM me your addy and I will try

All sorted!! Many thanks to all, especially HankScorpio- the link worked like a dream. I think i've used the all in one installer that you were going to suggest scoobyverysoon, cheers anyway mate.

Now all i need is a bigger mem card to play some games, hopefully it will arrive in the mornings post. Any recommendations for good games?

Homebrew is a term for home made games and apps. On v1.5, you can play these direct from the main menu. A homebrew app will give you two folders. For Example, Devhook and Devhook__%. Both of these go into the GAME folder on your mem card. Then, in the main menu, you simly scroll over to game, and load them up.
Now, what I suspect you really want it or is to play PSP games, AKA ISO's. You will need Devhook for that, and if you have got the Ultimate Installer the you are sorted.

Ah, I'm the opposite, it's most of what I've got but if anyone want to buy the poop NFS off me, 15 quid and it's theirs. But it's rubbish.

Memory card came this morning, loaded devhook again, loaded an ISO of TOCA, followed instructions of which settings i need, sorted. put the only UMD (demo disc) i have into the PSP (supposed to come up in the game menu as my loaded ISO) and....crash. Keeps freezing after a couple of attempts, so......do i need a proper game to make this work or have i done something wrong?

Played NFS on Xbox and not impressed, any good shooters?

I'm fairly sure you need a proper game UMD, I'll go and check mine with the demo UMD....

you can use ant umd, so the demo is fine.
bear in mind you can also get bad ISO's, that do crash.
at what stage does it crash?

The first time it crashed i was ready to run it, put the demo disc in and the umd icon came up. the demo disc then ran, not the iso. The second attempt, i left the umd in and setup the game, chose start, then froze. I reloaded the devhook with the umd in the psp, went through setup and froze again after i select start. Ive tried different options in the setup menu, freezes everytime sometimes in the menu after i press start, sometimes blank screen then nothing, sometimes goes to devhook screen then crashes when i insert the demo disc (disc spins up).

Ive only got the 1 iso so it could be bad, ive run a couple of homebrew games with no problem, but they didnt need devhook...

so your using devhook?
in the dev hook menu, select UMD MOunt, then ISO ANYUMD. In the Main menu again, make sure the CPU clock is at 222mhz.
I always leave a UMD in mine all the time.

Yep using devhook ver 0.46 and also tried devhook mod pack (screenshot, usb, no autorun). iso anyumd is selected, tried cpu clock at 222 and 333.

Umd is in the drive, go to start and just get blank screen, umd drive fires up and memcard light gives a couple of flashes.

Bad iso or something else?

Which f/w are you booting to?
I always go to 2.71
I also had to change the pl adress on mine to 89000000

I can't start an iso I made with any of the half dozen movie umds I've got.

What version was the psp befre it was downgraded?
Some people had prob's when downgrading from 2.1 and above to 1.5.
I didn't, but I then upgraded to 2.0 and used the MPh deongrader back to 1.5.
This is recommened for a FRESH 1.5 install. some people have probs otherwise. Like I say, I didn't, but I done it just incase.
