Default Setting up a blackberry

I have just been given one of these & the IT guy has decided to go on holiday for 2 weeks !
I have a work email address and I want the Blackberry to "mirror" this - ie I dont want a different email address for the Blackberry. So want the Blackberry to pick up emails that people send to my work address.

Any ideas where to start ?

DO you have access to the Blackberry server ? and can log in to it with a blackberry admin account !

Do you know which version of the blackberry server it is ?

If you can say yes to both i can help !

Hi Ian

Thanks for the offer. I have (I think) managed to get it working, when I send an email from the BlackBerry it sends no problem but when I send an email to it (ie I send an email to my work address) it arrives on the Blackberry but takes ages & ages to get there. Several hours often.
Not sure if this is normal or if there is anything I can "tweak" to make it faster?

Something is very wrong there, on my work blackberry the mail often arrives on the blackberry before the outlook client gets it!

Does anybody else in your company use one ? are they having the same issues ? How did you get it set up ? Drop me a pm if you like !

yep same here.

ive sorted out the permissions problems that everyone had when a MS update screwed it all up. However i cant use it. Each time i add permissions to the bes admin account, im able to send but after awhile the permissions get deleted again so i cant send

Yep that was a pain in the proverbial !

Is the Besadmin account a local admin, and a domain user ? (doesnt need domain admin rights, but sometimes it helps)

Make sure its not in a group that gets its permissions reset by group policy !

hmmm ive been trying to work out whats different, ive got the usual extra admin groups etc, its got to be one of those that resetting it.

How did you deal with it?
The bes admin has its send as permissions, everyone that has a BB has the bes admin account in the security with send as permissions. It works fine with everyone else but because im an admin something is taking over. What group would be likely to do that??

other pdas also got hit by it...but none of the MS endorsed ones....

it will usually be a normal user account thats causing the rights to be wiped, as Group Policy cuts in.

If you are using Active directory, are you in the admins OU ?

are you in the same ou as other admins ? Normally you have a admins OU that doesnt apply GP to that group, this then stops your user rights being changed by GP

im no real expert in this so youll have to bare with me ta

When looking at AD U&C's there are folders as its split in Countries then under that, a folder for users. All users inc me & other admins are in this list, so we arent in a seperate folder.
There is another folder within users for system accounts, this is were besadmin is located
